Or pay your taxes! It's about time something is done about tax cheats. Aside from denying your local municipalities the money they need to provide services, you cripple local businesses.

I would agree with you if the towns and municipalities didn't just piss it away.

All an illusion. If the money was well administered in the first place it would be another story.

If the money they get now was well administered there would be no need for this and more than likely they would have funds left over from what they now collect. I remember when I bought my first new car, 1965, there was no sales tax in N.Y. State and we got along just fine without it. It isn't my job to keep local shops in business, it is my job to get the most I can with the income I have. If I buy online I keep UPS, Fedex, and USPS workers who are local having an income. If the shop owners can't cut the mustard perhaps another line of work might be more suitable.

Yeah, there have been rumblings about this for some time. That's not just B and H. It's all of this online ordering that the states feel they are being cheated out of every penny they can grab.

I always try purchasing locally, especially camera equipment. My local store, Tempe Camera, is my first stop. Sure I may pay a few dollars more purchasing there, but I also get personalized help if needed. I get invites to, and attend, their Christmas party every year. One of the few businesses I know that has a Christmas party and invites their better customers. If they don't have what I want in stock, then B and H is the next stop. Tempe Camera's Imaging Center does all of my printing, as well.

I have been a B&H customer for many years, and the reason being laser fast free shipping and no sales tax. This past week I received a letter from them stating they had notified the state of Colorado of my purchases which amounted to slightly over 3K. Now I know we are supposed to pay the state taxes voluntarily on our purchases from out of state businesses, but I believe not many do, at least I didn't until now. Being a Canon shooter B&H priced those items at list and the savings was in taxes. So, from now on I will make my purchases from my local brick a mortar store which is Mike's Camera in Boulder, Colorado (which is 9 miles away) and not have to deal with this when I file my state taxes. No problemo, and no more waiting around for the big brown truck, but has anyone else received a letter like mine from B&H? I shudder at the though of receiving a letter from Adorama!

This could be the best thing that has happened for local camera stores.

Ok so I have not read through all five pages of comments (so far), but I wonder
1. If we all go back to the local camera shop (as we can no longer avoid sales tax by ordering out of state) what will our choices be. If no one shop B&H does anyone think that they will continue to host a web site that really demonstrates the wide variety of gear available?

2. If B&H (and others) are going to play the letter game, maybe we should just boycott them until they collect the taxes at the time of sale. Leave it up to them to remit the taxes to the state. I'm sure there is some smart programmer who can come up with a way to assess proper sales taxes with the state and local sales taxes figured in. For instance he could set up a method for the states and local entities to enter their sales taxes (and update them) into the calculation program.

3. Just how many good camera store would we really have? I mean with really knowledgeable sales people. Except for a few high population states, I would guess not many per state.

Just some thoughts. Personally I always thought the inability to properly collect taxes was due the laziness and gutlessness of our elected reps.

Just my $0.02

The reason most people dislike taxes is because of the wasteful government spending of our money. Aid to foreign countries that hate us, grants for the study of the sex life of a housefly and other such nonsense.

Not to mention the trillions down the rathole of endless wars.

Condescending? For paying my legally required taxes, and asking - expecting - others to do the same.

I live in the great socialist State of Vermont, which never met a tax, or tax increase, they did not like. Simultaneously one of the highest cost of living and rural poorest States in the country. Taxes at the State and local levels are out of control, and I regularly push to lower them. That said, I will pay what the law says is due. Not one stinking cent more than I have to, and I resent every one of them when I write the check!

Oh, sorrry, I forgot whom posted this comment. Prods for the sake of the arguement, not for real reason. My apologies.

As a former auditor I am aware that all states request this information. A significant number of vendors do provide the information as well as internet providers. This info. is then matched to whatever tax return area is applicable.

Bottom line is that you are legally responsible for paying the use tax. I pay it every quarter. As my father said, "If you are honest with everyone and yourself, you will always know you did the right thing." So, pay your taxes.

Colorado should be in the black with all that tax money they get on pot sales. A good friend of mine went to Denver for a visit and found out there was a severe shortage of bus drivers there. Applicants couldn't pass the drug test.

Today we have one.

My property tax went up $350.00 for the year 2018, I pay my fare share of taxes, but if I buy something on the internet that is tax free, that is my business and no one else, both state and federal taxes are wasted on trivial pursuit projects that benefit insider contractors who know a congressman or some other looser so when it comes to taxes, getting an item tax free is not being a tax cheat. All of the flee markets and garage sales would dry up over night, so grow up when it comes to taxes, you know, no new taxes when Reagon ran for office, with in a year taxes went, up. T

The easy answer is pay tax where you buy something.

No sir, I didn't say B&H sucked and I realize reading comprehension is difficult for some. I merely stated the advantage of ordering from B&H had gone away with the state sales tax and I would be frequenting Mike's Camera in Boulder, CO. Duh.....

It is not reading comprehension sir it is the fact that your B&H saving with no tax is a better deal and you would not voluntarily pay the taxes for the savings but since B&H filed for you you are obligated to file now.

Thanks for your service
