This subject has been covered extensively in the Main Photography section but I would appreciate comments from the smaller "Pro" community. I'm thinking of the Main section as giving me a "wide angle" view of the issues with lots of opinions but no way of separating facts from fiction. Somebody will say "I use this...and haven't had any problems". That really doesn't help.
Can you provide a more focused, "telephoto" view of what are acceptable methods of cleaning a lens surface? In the old days I used to use lens cleaning fluid and lens cleaning tissues. Are microfiber cloths OK to use on camera lenses?

I use a Giotto Rocket Blower to knock the dust off the lens. Then, if there is residual scum or haze or whatever, I'll use lens cleaning fluid and lens cleaning tissue, or a Photosol ewipe, to clean by spiraling out from the center to the edge of the element. Repeat if necessary. I NEVER put the fluid on the lens. I wet the tissue with 2-3 drops of fluid and use a clean tissue for each pass. I clean BOTH sides of the lens, capping the body with a spotlessly clean body cap while cleaning.
Please investigate all the suggestions at
http://www.cleaningdigitalcameras.com and
http://Photosol.com. While these sites concentrate on sensor cleaning, there are some lens cleaning tips and supplies there as well.
If all else fails, just use 80-grit sandpaper... Then throw the lens in the trash!

Thanks for your input Bill. But does it have to be sandpaper? I was thinking more of a Dremel tool with a wire brush!?
