As others said, they needed dead weight to loft and this is far more photogenic than a block of concrete. As someone said, it's the best car commercial on TV, ever!

IT was a first test launch of Falcon Heavy, the car was an expendable load in case of failure, it was the car or a ton of cement, Elon Musk has a sense of humor..
