This was my first attempt in digital panorama. (October 6, 2009)

Handheld (it shows) 362 captures, 7 rows.
Camera D300 90mm (zoom) 1/250s~1/6400s, f 5.3. ISO 400.
Used Microsoft ICE v1.4.4.0 to stitch. PTGUI crashed on load. I did not have PS at the time.

Cardinal sins while taking this:
- Auto focus !!!!!!!!!!!!
- Did not use a tripod
- Started from the bottom
- Used JPG (Yes, it is a sin when you can use NEF)
- Did not post process to achieve the best colors

The result is somewhat ok
- Areas are soft
- Stitch is not quite there (visible in the house)

Size of captures: 2.4GB
Panorama size: W 52057, H 13504 size 340MB

Converted to tile for easy viewing using google map tiler.
Size on server: 16.1GB, 87,382 tiles (256x256 PNG)

It is in the process of uploading since 05:40....

I will provide the link when the panorama is fully uploaded which can take a couple of hours - if not more. Way more.... 10:53, still 21000 tiles to go... Full upload ended at 12:34... 6 hours and 54 minutes.... I do not want to know how long it would have taken if I was in slow connection...

Creating the panorama again, using ACR

Something few will be interested in but since I am curious...

ACR is stretching the PC CPU....

Trying ICE now

First bump is ACDSee to load the image onto ICE.
Second Bump is ICE loading the image.
Align with ICE is 12% utilization.
Memory in use is 39,5 GB.

From the view I have with Windows looks pretty good. Can't get close enough to see stitching errors nor to see the faults you describe.

This was my first attempt in digital panorama. (O... (show quote)

I can understand multiple shots and multiple rows, but why so MANY? I have to wonder how you can sort them all out. Or does the computer do that for you......

I have taken multiple photos but nowhere near that many, and had trouble keeping them straight! Even with putting a signal frame in there at the beginning and end - maybe I should have also put one between rows!

Regardless of all the "flaws" you describe, it looks like a pretty Vermont scene. Looking forward to seeing the final result. Where in Vermont were you? This type of scene could be just about anywhere!

As usual for me, no clue, we were traveling around.

All I can tell you is: there was a cheese farm near by (They are all over), a blueberry bush field next to the scene and some mom and pop operation selling meat product.

Not very informative... Sorry.

Multiple rows are from bottom left to right then up right to left, up left to right. PTGUI detects the pattern before stitching or asks you about it.

This was shot with a zoom set at 90mm meaning that the camera recorded only a small part of the scene every-time. Hence sin: Did not use a tripod.

If your approach is methodical the software will recognize the pattern and deal with it.

Most software titles are finicky about the camera orientation. Do not change it during a shoot. If you use ICE, it does not care about much other than finding where to place what.

Sounds like just about anywhere in Vermont! Although I don't see blueberry bushes too often... I live in SW Vermont.

Picture is coming along, but I see white lines through it. I guess you are planning on fixing that.

I think it looks fine, although I did see the minor misalignment in the roofline of the house.

If you are like me, once I see it I cannot but only see it...

The result is that it is a good try but a miss.
