Careful David in Dallas ... As I recall Mapplethorpe had a religious theme in his shows... Those church people turned on him not appreciating any thing but flowers, birds and babies. They verbally crucified him!! I was in Nashville when the poop hit the propeller.

Mapplethorpe is not my cup of tea either. I've known of him for a few decades though. In that selection above the only images I can easily stomach are the Flowers, and the Photograph of rock star Patty Smith with the Doves. The Andy Warhol is just OK.

to dpullum: I wonder how Mapplethorpe's show went over in NYC & SF? Just saying, Nashville could get upset by a lot of things. Again, I'm not a Mapplethorpe fan at all.

My church is having its annual "Art Show" next month and as one of the members of the FOCUS volunteer photographer group I am allowed to pick 35 pictures to be displayed there. In years past we have been constrained to only use photos taken during the previous 12 months, but this year we are allowed to use any that are our favorites, and are encouraged to include those that define us and explore our personal interests.

I have over 40,000 digitized photos, so the task to narrow down to just 35 was a daunting one. However, I have made my selection, and have uploaded copies of them to my Flickr account: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/albums/72157692102064684.

I do not put these forward as especially fine photography, nor as "art", although some may reach those goals. They were chosen because they have meaning to me and hopefully expose "who" I am.

Yes, some nice variety there, nearly all very well presented in my opinion. Many do approach being Fine Art Photography. I especially like the spiral stairs, the church pews inside church, and helicopter.

You did a marvelous job. Reminds me of sorting cattle through a gate, culls one way, keepers another. Some times a few cull got to be keepers. You selections, however, I did not see any stray culls in your 35 pics. Well done!

Thanks, everyone! It helps to get some feedback. I've not heard from the Group Leader, yet, but he has multiple projects in the mill right now and is busy.

lamiaceae, that helicopter photo is probably my all-around favorite. It was taken with a Petri 7S rangefinder 35mm camera in 1964 at Cartwright, Labrador as the chopper was landing. It was just dumb luck that it included the radar site under the bird and that the rotor blades pointed to the corners of the frame. The copter had just been repainted, too, and the colors really snapped. I liked it so much when it was new that I had a 12x18 print made of it, and when I digitized it (many years later) I found a big scanner at my workplace and scanned the big print. (The original was a 35mm Ektachrome slide.)

The photos in that grouping range from 1963 through 2017, using a variety of cameras: the earliest was with a Kodak Baby Brownie Special using 127 Ektachrome; then the Petri 7S; a Nikkormat FT; Nikon N70 or Nikon FE (I carried both, one above the other); Kodak DX7630; Nikon D50; Nikon D7000; and Nikon D7100. The Nikkormat and N70 wore a Tamron 28-200 zoom lens, the FE had a Vivitar 28mm f/1.8, and the DSLRs all used an 18-200VR zoom. Scanning was done mostly on an HP flatbed scanner (with transparency adapter).

It appears I never replied to this--sorry. I'm glad you liked them. The show (there were 6 others showing) was very popular with the congregants.
