Lens pens aren't meant to clean sensors....

I agree!! I would hate to damage the sensor on a $1000 to $3500 camera because I saved a couple of dollars on a lens pen that scratched, left residue on or damaged my sensor.

OKay.....

You have bought High-End glass - High-End Camera(s). Why on earth would anyone go "on the cheap" for crap?

You know.... Like putting a 3,000 buck camera on a Wal-Fart tripod...

Answer....

Are you out of your mind?

Get the real one - Not a knock-off.

Ooops, the vids I've seen didn't show them cleaning sensors. Since it's not the method I use & I am not familiar with it, I ASSumed and made one of myself...I have used "PEEPS" for cleaning my glasses (same principle)
and found them to be wanting...

For that price, I would buy one and try it on a cheap filter. If you normally use a protective filter, try it only on the filter. What can you lose, a 15.00 filter? Save the real one for your lenses. Who knows, maybe it will work well. Or maybe not?

The items listed on eBay for around $1 aren't Lenspens, they aren't even fake Lenspens. The are just using the words Lens and Pen in the listing so their listing shows up when you search for Lenspen. Are they any good? Who knows. If it's just a brush, I wouldn't worry. But the cleaning pad, well that might be of concern. Really, it's not that much to get an official Lenspen, so why take the chance?

Fake items will use the same name and trademark, and packaging. See for example most listings for RayBan sunglasses on eBay.

Some fake items are so close to the real thing, you wonder. And the answer is that sometimes the same factory is making the real deal and running some fakes on the side. The difference in that case can be just the use of cheaper material. For example, I have a LowePro camera bag that is fake. It has exactly the same hardware and trademark attachments, and exactly the same tags. But the material is cheaper and the padding less substantial.

Also, I do not think US copyright law applies overseas.

There are many brands of lens pens.
For example,

or this:

And many more!
Which one is "real"? Depends on the manufacturer you ask.

I understand. When I got mine, it came in a kit with a magnifier gadget that fits onto the lens opening of the camera. It has an opening on one side for the pen to access the sensor while you observe through the magnifier. I use the magnifier to inspect the sensor even if I'm not cleaning it.

Knock-offs of anything are likely to be sub-quality. For the lens pen I would worry about what is in the pad. Less than totally soft stuff - one swipe - bye bye $$$ lens.

Has anyone had any experience with knock off Lenspens? I just checked listings on eBay and prices start at less than $1. Now, at that price I am pretty sure I am not getting the genuine article. OK, I am positive of it! Om the other hand, I have seen knock-offs of other photo accessories that seem to be made from the identical molds. I have a no-name battery grip that cost about 10% of the 'brand name' one and is virtually identical.

Anyway,I know this is a really inexpensive item as far as the rest of the stuff in my equipment case goes, but I am curious: has anyone bought a really cheap Lenspen on line? Any opinion as to how well it works?

I also came across this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPGc6O7DQxs where the guy seems to be 'recharging' what is labeled as a fake Lenspen using candle smoke carbon.

Anybody understand enough Russian to offer a rough translation?

You can get one real Lenspen at B&H for $7.89 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/202075-REG/Celestron_93575_LensPen_Tool.html?ap=y&c3api=1876%2C%7Bcreative%7D%2C%7Bkeyword%7D&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8uGY8fuC2QIVR16GCh2w9wELEAQYASABEgL8I_D_BwE or a three piece kit for $12.95 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1058626-REG/lenspen_ndslrk_1c_dslr_pro_kit_w_micro_clear.html?ap=y&c3api=1876%2C%7Bcreative%7D%2C%7Bkeyword%7D&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8uGY8fuC2QIVR16GCh2w9wELEAQYAiABEgLX3vD_BwE&smp=n. Why cheap out with a fake knockoff that might ruin your lens.

I use the authentic LensPen and there are a whole lot of knock-offs; most ridiculous imitations!! A few use simply a piece of black sponge or other black material which is useless and can damage a sensor or lens.

LensPen is the only product that has been tested and works without damaging valuable cameras and lenses!! Don't be sucked in by CHEAP imitations!!

I have knock offs, seem exactly as original, but I don't use them. I find micro cloths to work better.

I wouldn't use a lens pen on a sensor, no matter what brand.
