If it's against the law for you to eradicate them, why not tie up a dog to the pole that just might?
Lol. Then I will have another problem to deal with.

Yep. They can be cuties at times. And pests the rest of the time. The most acrobatic little creatures I've ever seen. The things they can do to get to food is amazing. And they succeed most of the time. They obliterated my friend's backyard fruit tree. He's still trying to figure how to stop them without harming them. One of them told a buddy, and now there are two of them eating from his tree. No bird feeders are present.. it's against the law to kill them in our community. Rats are different. They can be killed.

They are a big problem around here. I am surprised that they just now decided to eat through the top of the feeder. No more feeders for me.

Yes tom, Leicaflex is right. Grey Squirrels are classed as vermin over here, they were introduced from America and quickly overrun our Red Squirrel population (mainly through disease). There are now far too many to eradicate all of them, but there are pockets of Red Squirrels left, and every means is used to protect from the Grey Squirrel.
Too many tree huggers over here. I need to check into the local laws about these things. In a much broader sense, it must have been amazing to see the America's for the first time before we started populating them. Today, it is hard to imagine just how these early settlers were able to clear so much land without the aid of modern machinery.

Crafty little demons they are. Nice shot Tom.
Thanks, Jack! I did miss the prize shot, though. When I saw him, he was totally inside with just his head sticking out. He was too quick for me though.

I like red ones better. They taste sweeter.

I had this feeder for ten years and I had nothing like this until now.

Well your squirrels are probably getting smarter. They have had 10 years to study the problem. You put out food they like and then complain when they try to get at it. What do you expect?

Hey, the red ones aren't chewing through your feeders. We're talking pest control first, culinary preferences second!

Yep, I understand, the gnaw marks in all my feeders are the result of 'the squirrel'! As my
mom always said, "they have to eat too"! LOL

Tom, I finally found the solution; purchase a cake of red hot suet as it doesn't seem to bother the birds. The kind that I purchase (Walmart) is not very sticky so take a knife and shave and crumble a little off of the cake and mix in with you seed. I doesn't take much and after a while you can probably go back to not using it!

No, don't tie a dog to the post!!! Just get a squirrel proof feeder!
