Was there ever a "Best" 35mm Film SLR? ... if so, what was it, in your opinion?

Chinon SLR circa 1967. Because it has flash synch from 1 to 1/125 second and it is M42 screw mount giving it a wide range of Chinon, Fuji, Pentax, Yashica and aftermarket lenses. And it is a manual shutter so it don't need a battery.
My fave 35 was a Pentax LX.
Looks like I can go back further than most! For me it would be a Pentax S1a or a Pentax S/V. Later on a Pentax MX with the Judas window in the viewfinder. But Pentax deserve full credit - did they not invent the SLR? (or was it Mamiya)?

"was" Jack?
Gone, now ... retired, or do you still use the LX, Jack?

I think so, Del ...
What's a "Judas window" ?
This sure opens a huge opinion poll. My first SLR was a KONICA T3. I believe it was the first shutter priority SLR. I still have and use it. Otherwise I still love my Canon A1. Have a AE1, several Canon point and shoot, both film and digital.
Also had Nikon F2 with motor drive, another winner.
Now use primarily Canon 80D,T5i. I have all told 11 lenses for the Canon's and Konica. As I am getting older I love the 80D with Sigma 18-300.
I also love my 20mm for the Konica.
Like women, it is almost impossible to decide which is the BEST.

Canon Pelex, an Ftb w/o the noise. A 125 max flash shutter. For me well balanced.
My most reliable, was/is a Exackta VX1000 with all Zeiss lenses. No batteries, strictly mechanical. It even went for a swim on a canoe trip. Dried it out next to a campfire. It is still working today. Some of those lenses I use on my Sony a6000. My Favorite to use was/is a Rollie SL35 , also Zeiss lenses. Also using some of those lenses on my a6000. I also had a Minolta 7000i. Love the program chips. Some of those lenses I use on my Sony a65 and a99ll. Most of those cameras are dust collectors now.

Hi, Ron ... lovely rainbow shot, there ... never SEEN a complete rainbow in one shot! ... Congratulations!!!!
Yup ... me, too ... my A1 was my fave SLR (as long as I had it) .... F2, would have to've been my second fave ... again - gone with the mist ....
I have a T4i now ... model just before yours - pretty much the same thing ... been eying an 80D - not there, yet ... 18-300 Sigma, huh? ... vignettes, tho' - right?
Also have eleven EOS lenses - mostly Tamron, with a couple of Tokinas, and a couple of Sigmas. and, oh ... yes, a couple of Canons in there, too ....
Lucky you in LA ... not much rain, there, huh, Ron? .... pouring like the Dickens, here .... NY side .... oh, well ... time to get out the Pentax, I guess ....
Pentax K1000 is my most memorable. Used it in high school J class. Picked up a Nikon F2A and Nikon FE and have never looked back. Now relearning everything on a Nikon D3300.

Whatever happened to the Pelex series, RA? ... Canon didn't want to support it, anymore, huh?
Just as well Sony picked it up with their SLTs ... pretty much the same deal ... fixed transparent mirror ... quiet as all get-out ....
Got three of them - a58, a77, a77II (this last, actually is a sort of pseudo affair - not really a full SLT, nor really a full DSLR, either)
Will figure it out, one day ....
Noise can be a problem with many cameras, SLTs included ... one day there'll be a design which is absolutely noiseless ... count on it!
All things considered in my opinion the Minolta XD11 has the crown!
Had a friend in high school who used a Vivitar 35mm SLR. He absolutely loved it. Had several lenses for it. Does Vivitar make cameras anymore? Had a great Series 1 70-210mm lens also but do not see it anymore either.

Not MY old ones ... everything's in its own bag ... dust only collects on the outside of the bag ....
Amazing, isn't it? ... How many different lenses you can use on a Sony camera, with the right adaptors, huh, OR?
Did your Exacta enjoy its swim?
Looking at the film SLRs from the late 60's and early 70's, the most pervasive camera, for professionals, was the Nikon F. There were other cameras more technologically advanced and more elegant to use, but from the standpoint of ruggedness, reliability, and used as the default standard of the day, The Nikon F was it. Personally, I was a Minolta guy (SRT-101), but always pined for a Nikon.

I traded my LX for a 503CW Hasselblad and a Contax SLR.
