Exactly. Those who suggest that all pros use lens hoods all the time have fallen into the trap: failing to think that there just might be situations where it hinders your photography. One genre is macro-photography.

Another is Thomas Shahan who reverses lenses and actually props his flash unit on the rear lens element. There’s a Malaysian tour guide who shoots Herps at night in the jungles. Guess what? No lens hood. Do o use a lens hood? Yes. Most of the time. But those who make blanket statements simply don’t consider that there may be reasons why a lens hood would actually prohibit getting the shot.
My Nikon twin macro flash won’t even fit with a hood on the lens.
