How do I get a shuuter count on my Nikon D3100? I found a web site but all it did was to black out my screen.

EOS Count for Nikon?

If you have a Mac, you can open an image in Preview, then "Show Inspector" under tools. The shutter count is in the EXIF data, towards the bottom. On the D40 it's called "Image Number."

You can also use http://www.myshuttercount.com/ - this tested accurate for my D40.

I've seen my (Nikon D5000)shutter count on my Flickr pages, however it appears only when there is no post processing. eg

http://www.flickr.com/photos/16778440@N04/6823767885/meta/in/photostream

about half way down you should see it (2798).

so maybe try that - if you don't have a Flickr a/c, you can get a free 'lite' version.

cheers

steve

I use http://www.camerashuttercount.com/. I also have a D3100 and I love the camera. You'll have to cut and paste the link.

Here's more.

Shutter Count
*http://www.camerashuttercount.com/
*http://regex.info/exif.cgi
*Get Irfanview (free) and also get the plug-ins for it. Start the program, open a photo, click on Image > Information > Exif info.
*Get ExifInfo - also free. Unzip and get the icon onto the Desktop. Find a photo and drag it onto the icon. A window will open with loads of info. Look down the list for Shutter Count (or whatever they call it).

if you don't want to upload your photo's you can down load PhotoME
Welcome to the PhotoME website!
PhotoME is a powerful tool to show and edit the meta data of image files. Thanks to the well organised layout and intuitive handling, it's possible to analyse and modify Exif (where Shutter count is stored) and IPTC-NAA data as well as analyse ICC profiles - and it's completely FREE!

I just looked at my exif data on Picasa from my D5100 Nikon and near the bottom I saw the shutter count of 19516. my camera is about 1 year old. I guess I really have been shooting a lot. I never noticed that information before. Thanks

You're getting your money's worth out of it. That's what it's for. :D
