I have had one for several years. Great quality and very reasonable price.

I have too. It's a great lens. Very sharp and very well built. One thing is, it does not have VR. I'd recommend this lens highly.

I have one and it's great. I don't find the focus to be as slow as some comment on, at least not for a macro lens anyway, which you would expect to be slow due to the in focus plain being so small. It produces gorgeous photos.

Hey Hoggers, been looking at reviews for a Macro for my 7100. Reading that the Tonkia 100 is outstanding. Anyone have or had this lens?

The ONLY macro lenses you should consider are the older Nikon 60 MM 2.8 D and the new Nikon 100 MM micro. Both lenses have excellent reputations of very high IQ. Both sell at a very high resale value and both are designed to work ONLY with your Nikon D7100. Engineered to work specifically with your D7100. Think about that. Nikon is only one of 2 companies that design and make from scratch their own lenses designed to bring you the highest IQ possible from your Nikon camera. Nikon was first a optic company, and camera's represent only a small part of the overall business which is still basically built around it's quality optics.

Strong opinion here. I have to disagree on the 100mm. At half the price of the Nikon equivalent, you get the same thing. Resale value in my opinion, means little if you are paying double, when the depreciation will be far less than the extra you pay today. Just my opinion of course, look at some comparison reviews. In my research, some said the Tokina was as good as the Nikon.

You already got plenty of help on this thread. I'll just add that I own one and use it from time to time and it serves me well. I bought mine used and got it for about half price. It works fine.

Please stick to topic. Opinions on lens and so on, not nastiness. If you have money to throw around fine, but not everyone does. Have a good day.

The proof, as they say, is in the pudding. As you may have noted, this poster lists four lenses—the macro is the Tokina asked about by the OP. The others are all Nikon lenses. I have the Nikkor 105–however the OP was asking about the Tokina. I would not hesitate to use/buy the Tokina if I needed a macro lens in this focal length

It is not only the price, it is the build quality, the length of time a lens stays in tolerance (this is important, most 3rd party glass are not built to the same tolerances as Sony, Canon, or Nikon). And tolerances is just one piece of the pie, then their is the matter of the lenses themselves, Nikon and others manufacture there own glass (fact) third party glass is bought by the manufacture, goes out to the lowest bidder (fact). That is why the price difference.

I am going to assume that you are referring to the Tokina 100mm f2.8. I do not own or have used that lens but the reports I have read about its performance look good.

When searching for a macro lens my biggest issue became working distance. Since I was shooting insects I wanted a decent working distance a bought a used Sigma 150mm. for about $600. Does a great job and I think I am able to get shots I would otherwise miss due to distance.

The 100mm Tokina when used on a D7100 is the equivalent of a 150mm which gives you more working distance.
