Hey Hoggers, been looking at reviews for a Macro for my 7100. Reading that the Tonkia 100 is outstanding. Anyone have or had this lens?

There aren't really any "Bad" true macro lenses. If you use proper techniques any will give you good results. I have 8 different true macro lenses ranging from 50 to 180mm in focal length and in AF & MF iterations. I use a D7100 as my go-to macro camera with an older (mid 1980's) manual focus 105mm F2.8 macro lens. I'd suggest perusing the "True Macro" section here on UHH for macro advice. The link to my Flickr stream which has lots of macro insect albums can be found under my signature...

I think you'll like the 100 macro. I have a 150 and it works for me.

It's never failed me yet. Have used with the D7000, D7200, and D600 with and without tubes. Wonderful lens.

The earlier version is internal focus - like the Canon and Nikon - and gives slightly more working distance than the current NON-IF version - and the non-IF is the one everyone reviews and raves about ....

I have the IF version and really happy

I use this lens (F 2.8 D) for macro and other purposes and am happy with it apart from the noise it makes using the AF and the AF being a bit slow. I don't think a Nikon Macro or is it Micro? lens would have the same level of noise. Having said that I do tend to use manual focusing and move the lens slightly backwards or forwards to get the focal point of taking nature pics, if doing still life I will use a tripod.

Royce, I tried a friend's Tonkia 100 2.8 macro on my Nikon D750 and I was very impressed with the image quality. Excellent lens. At least this copy was.

This photo of the spider would convince me about this lens.

I do own this very lens and it is extremely sharp on my D 7200.
