Any suggestions as to what I should get for remote shutter release for my D500? What do others use?

Thanks

Check your user's manual, under accessories.

There are tow kinds out there; one that you have to be in front of the camera (infared) and within about 15 feet for it to work and then there are the remote ones that work 360 degrees around the camera and will work form distances farther away. You have to determine your needs and then get the one that works for you. Any of the decent internet stores or your local store can advise you further.

If you want to reply to me, do it privately. The admin has me blocked me from emails because on October 20, yahoo put an email from here into the spam folder. Their answer to that is to have a tantrum and block you (when this happens) from receiving emails for 10 days; kinda like in kindergarten when you were sent to the corner). Only I am still being blocked and they will not fix it; instead they keep coming back and telling me to do stupid things that don't work or exist as they claim. Multiple emails to them has me still blocked over a month later. Is this not discrimination?

Why privately, to hide bum information?
Edit: This wasn't meant to be impolite - useful information ought to be shared here.

Thanks. That's exactly what I wanted. I looked everywhere in the manual but never thought of accessories, for some weird reason. I'll blame old age.

This is the 10-pin unit I have been using. My only complaint is that it is easy to lock into the release position, but that's my fault.

Thanks, that's exactly what I want, especially after seeing the price of the infrared remotes.

It suits my use because I shoot off a tripod whenever possible. Your search will undoubtedly yield more choices!

Your D500 will not work with an IR remote. It is a pro body and Nikons pro bodies do not have IR receptors. The wired 10 pin remote is the best choice on a budget, but I use and recommend an RF wireless unit that gives you up to 300' range for the best versatility.

Why some people here feel the need to post misleading info is beyond me. Must be just to see themselves in print I guess.

I did know an IR remote wouldnt work with this camera but didn't know what other devices might be out there. I think the RF unit is more than I need so I'll likely go with the 10 pin remote. Thanks for your reply.

That is also what I use most of the time.

This wireless remote, triggered by a 10 pin adapter should, by what I've been told work on D500: SMDV's RFN-4s Their website is smdv.co.kr Works like a charm on my D300s, focusing too, & the D500 is supposed to have the same 10 pin adapter…

I use the Vello shutter release for my Nikons. It is wireless remote and I can either put the receiver on the hot shoe of my camera or (this is what I usually do) Velcro strap it to my tripod or shoulder strap. The Vello works great (for me) and I have 3 different camera connector cables for different models of cameras.. Have one size/shape for my old Nikon D70s, and one each of the same for my Nikon D7100 and D610. That cable also fits the wife's D7000. The remote has a short strap with a snap hook on it which allows me to fasten it to my belt loop or somewhere else convenient on my clothes. Vello, B&H, Adorama, and most other large camera stores carry the receiver/remote and a large selection of connector cables.. I like the system (in addition to the reasons above) because if I buy a new or different camera, I don't have to replace the Vello shutter release, I just need to have or get the appropriate cable to plug into my existing system. Another feature with it is that you can have one control but it can release multiple cameras by having all of the camera end released set to the same channel.

I have this as well as the Nikon MC-30A and it works well and has some good features, but it is rather large for me and my use.
