Beautiful work! We live in a senior community outside Dallas, TX, and we have a lot of old golfers here. Thusly we have mainly gone the route of croquet golf. You might check it out if you ever need an occasional switch up. Do you sell your mallets?
Thanks Joe, I sell them for what they cost me to make, around AUD$50..some a let go cheaper and lose money as there are a few people that don't have a lot of money to throw around. Even at $50 I'm losing money but I enjoy helping friends in the Village and it gives me yet another interests. Lorraine and I are in a Lifestyle Village, not just a retirement village as the age requirements are that you must be 55 years of age to move in. It's all independent living in separate houses...we actually have a bigger house than the one we moved out of to come here.

Hi again Frank, the "stuff" I use to protect the hitting surface (and the bottom of the mallets) is the stick on, non slip step tread used on boat decks and other steps where a non slip surface is required. It comes in grey and black. It wears very well, I've had my mallet for two years now and it still looks new so it does a good job...
I was wondering what the line was in your mallets, now I see. You use 2x4 wood. Have you used 4x4?

I use Tasmanian Oak Frank and the only size I can source locally is 120 X 38mm and 120 x 25mm, I rip it down so I end up with a head approx, 62H x 65W...I use the Oak because it gives me the desired weight. The Jarrah one is OK weight wise, and a solid piece. Without going to a lot of trouble, I'm relegated to using what I can get in the local hardware. The handle is also Tasmanian Oak, 22mm diam.
I glue the two halves together and then ad four brass or stainless steel screws in each corner just to be sure.
Is that a drafting table with a Masonite top?

No, a small bench I bought from the hardware store...fits just right in our garage. The solid top is Custom Wood with a coat of satin clear I put on it to help with any stains.
Looks like a great HOBBY/past-time. Good for you!! RJM
