Beautiful shots of a beautiful wood project Ron. I'm helping the grandson glue up a walnut and oak longboard. I won't be trying out the final product. I'm done skate boarding.

Thanks Doc, yes I was a skate boarder in my younger days...back then we had to make our own as there wasn't anything you could buy. I used to shape a piece of wood and pull a metal wheeled roller skate in halves, two wheels for the rear and two for the front. We used to skate in the local service station that had a slope, at night you could see sparks flying off the steel wheels...fun until I was showing off one night and went full pelt into a bus sign while there was a bus load of people watching...

Beautiful work! We live in a senior community outside Dallas, TX, and we have a lot of old golfers here. Thusly we have mainly gone the route of croquet golf. You might check it out if you ever need an occasional switch up. Do you sell your mallets?
Thanks Joe, I sell them for what they cost me to make, around AUD$50..some a let go cheaper and lose money as there are a few people that don't have a lot of money to throw around. Even at $50 I'm losing money but I enjoy helping friends in the Village and it gives me yet another interests. Lorraine and I are in a Lifestyle Village, not just a retirement village as the age requirements are that you must be 55 years of age to move in. It's all independent living in separate houses...we actually have a bigger house than the one we moved out of to come here.

Interesting. I played a lot of croquet as a child. We had it permanently set up in the front yard. I've never seen square mallets. I can see some advantages, but I'd think it might play havoc with some of my favorite shots. I guess one would have to get used to them.
The people here like them more, for one thing, when you finish your game, they stand by them selves...most of the professionally made mallets I've seen available in sporting goods shops, here in Australia and other countries, are square these days. A lot are metal..

They look great and usable.
Just curious, why square.....I've only seen round.....and what is the piece on the end, looks like metal or sand paper...... Is the black a piece of leather.
Hi again Frank, the "stuff" I use to protect the hitting surface (and the bottom of the mallets) is the stick on, non slip step tread used on boat decks and other steps where a non slip surface is required. It comes in grey and black. It wears very well, I've had my mallet for two years now and it still looks new so it does a good job...

Beautiful mallets, nicely photographed too.
I can't play croquet because of our family motto, "Nulli malleis," "With mallets toward none."
What a shame Barbie...I can't eat chicken for the same reason...
Sad. Maybe try alligator. Chicken tastes a lot like alligator.

Fine looking mallets and shots Ron.
[quote=SX2002]We have a thriving Croquet group here in the Village, A couple of years ago I decided to make my own mallet, as every sports person knows, it's always better to have your own gear. Making mallets has kind of snowballed now and I just finished #16..]
I had a friend who was one fabulous carpenter. He loved to work with exotic woods. Ultimately he got into cabinet making, and was well thought of in that endeavor. In the end, he was making a fine life for himself, making caskets (also known as palls) In fact they say "his caskets are TO- DIE- FOR!!" No kidding!!
I apologize for that .....Something just came over me.....like a lid. RJM

I haven't had croc. The few we have here in the United States are only found in the very Southern tip of Florida, are very small and, unlike yours, very shy, very reclusive, and very protected.
But some folks do say it tastes like alligator.
Beautiful mallets, Ron! The people who get those are very fortunate!
