Since I could not sleep (been up since 3:30 am) I'll go ahead and post then go make a fresh pot of coffee...or maybe not - the smell of coffee brewing always wakes everyone up...maybe I'll roll down to the donut shop and get a cup..... so here are my "freestyle" shots for the day.

Welcome to Day 190 :) Today it's supposed to be all about busses .. mass transit. Unfortunately for me I spent all day waiting on the cable guy and by the time he came to our house it was dark .. so I didn't get out to take any photos. I have no examples to post at this moment.
So Lets make it a freestyle day. Just post anything that you want to share .. I'll get out later on today and shoot something LOL ... :) I look forward to seeing what y'all come up with on the spur of the moment.

I hope you post something for us today, please.

Here are a couple of IPhone pics of the San Diego AquaBus and AquaLink operation. Pretty unique in transit. The last one is arrival day of some new baby Gillig buses as work. They are built in Hayward, CA, near SF.

Yea, they really are. I took the pics as I was exploring options for a river bus service at home.

A photo comment on our wet weather this summer. We have had so much rain recently I have taken it as a personal challenge to take a picture of the rain falling down. In this picture you can see it coming down at about a 45 degree angle. The background of the blue garage door and side of the truck show the driving rain. By the way today is a beautiful sunny day.
And secondly our handsome black cat Shakey.

Wow. Fred Ann.. you've got wet weather and the midwest is drying up....too bad we can't spread that sort of thing out huh... Shakey IS a handsome cat, how did he come by the name Shakey.?

When Shakey was first introduced to his new home he was a pretty scared little kitten. He was trembling, shaking all over. My son, who was Shakey's first owner, named him "Shakey" due to his behaviour. My husband, a previous high school English teacher, has decided that Shakey is a nickname for "Shakespeare". My grandchildren call him "Pepper Shaker" after a ceramic black cat pepper shaker they have. We all love him no matter what we call him.
Thanks for asking.

Thank you for sharing your story Fred Ann.. I asked because my maiden name is Shake.. and you can only imagine what knicknames I had over the years, and when we moved to Utah where Shakespeare is common surname, everyone thought we had changed ours....Even tho' I have been married now for 37 years to Mr Olvera, my brother-in-law who knew me for five years before I married his brother - still calls me "shaker".. fun connections..

I can see why you asked of the names orgin. Names are neat. My surname is 'Givan'. How do you pronounce that? Easy, as in the name was 'given' to me by my husband. Now its time to drive out to my favourite Milkweed patch to look for Monarch buttertflies.

Yesterday I did what I call a ''wandering shoot'' and it is one of my favourites. I took off on my bike and shot subjects that are nothing outstanding, but more like the things we see while passingby in a car and say to ourselves, ''Oh well, too late I'll be back'' and naturally we don't go back. On a bike we are pedaling and time does not count, so I stop have a drink of water and find stuff that I'll shot and probably throw away later on...LOL.

I learned this when I began doing cycletouring, but found it time consuming because I was always stopping. Vermont is 175 miles long and can be done on a bike in 2 1/2 days, took us a day longer.

I think this might be a butterfly day. First sighting this morning was this folded up butterfly on a tree trunk in our yard. I think it might be a Red Admiral. It is definitely not a Quebecois butterfly. How do I know? It appears to be shy and wouldn't display its undersides ( underwear) as some Quebecois critters have been known to do. Secondly , a picture of a fully open Red Admiral butterfly. And thirdly we have just returned from a Milkweed patch, a rather frustrating experience. The Monarch Butterflies there just fly by most of the time, seldom landing. But I did get a photo of one at a distance on a milkweed blossom.
