He doesn't even seem to notice you and looks more as if he were hot and tired. The gentleman with the bicycle and the newspapers, is a picture that comes to mind when I think of "India" - as it used to be, and in many ways still is. Correct? The fruit vendors are wonderful composition and color. Those berries look like olives. But the bananas and the fruit cart are very colorful. And then the face of Jesus watching - a good "catch". Thank you for sharing these with us. I know it is not easy for you to "shoot" and wisdom is necessary as to when and what to shoot, but these images bring alive the world in which you live and move each day. Things that are "every day" to you, are not "every day" to us in the US. And I am sure the reverse is also true.[/quote]
Pat, you have very sharp eyes, you didn't miss even the smallest detail or motive, thanks a ton for sparing the time and energy to vet these grabshots. I wanted to run these images of a very different India past you and the others, whose lives / environments are so very different. Jesus is on the boundary wall of a home for derelicts, and saints / savants of other religions are also featured, e.g., the Buddha. Yes, this is some of the India that is essentially timeless.

Its interesting that Subroto would bring the 4th back into the sequence of events of today... I've been working on one of the photos from that day... Santa Fe Rose and a couple of others commented on one particular picture and I know there are those who believe in "signs" and I did not know what impact this picture would even have on me until I saw it... Now that I've done a couple of changes - we ( here in my house ) all love it.. I know its out of context of gardens - but... well lets think of it as God's garden tender..

Loved all the fireworks images everyone posted, I guess the 4th of July is a special day for all freedom loving people of the world. Adams, Ben Franklin, Jefferson, and all of them were vindicated on that day, as were the pioneers and the mountain men like Jim Bridger and Kit Carson and all the many other heroes who made America the greatest country n the world.

OMG... did you not have a Ranger guide or a trail map??? When I worked there in the Rangers office one of my duties was manning the two way radios when the rangers had to go rescue someone who had either fallen off one of the viewpoints (NOT following instructions to stay on the path) or got lost and dehydrated... they used to post Rangers at the tops of the trails to make sure the hikers had everything they needed...... I'm SOOOO happy you made it back okay.. you did right?? did not have to be rescued??

p 18: Thanks, Janice ! Just wanted to show you folks some scenes from everyday life in Delhi-- grab shots, but aimed at conveying some of the hustle and bustle of life in the metrop. Sure helps to have these little P&S's handy. In good light, the image quality isn't too bad, can even give a dslr a run for its money. The pic/s you refer to were shot with the Coolpix P500 @200 ISO, F4, 1/400th sec., 6.7mm = c. 35mm in dslr terms. Glad you liked it, I thought you guys might like to see the way many Indians sit, he can hold this pose for hours, I couldn't hold it for even a minute ! ;)

Teri O, the feeling is mutual, I am proud to be your friend. I lmajored in Medieval Indian History for my Master's, but what little knowledge I have of America has been hoarded over 60 years of avid general reading. So, I love America, am somewhat familiar with your nation's history, was always an avid reader and even became proficient in handguns thanks to everyone from Wyatt Earp (who used a Buntline Special) to the Cisco Kid to Doc Holliday and even (hahaha) Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett (sorry, PATo !!) We musn't forget Annie Oakley (of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN fame), who inspired me to take up target rifle shooting successfully. I could go on and on about America and fill up pages on this website in no time, I am fanatical about its early history--especially the gold strike at Sutter's Mill and Levis jeans (which began there, in a way). In fact, I am enamoured of America, it got under my skin a long, long time ago. I love its tremendous energy, its pioneering spirit and its sheer size and beauty...all without ever having been there (in this lifetime). Perhaps "awe" is too strong a word (but so nice of you to use it), but yes, I feel the same tug at the heartstrings for America, that intangible something that makes all of us so proud to be associated with this great nation. As I've said before on this site, "God Bless America !"...and God Bless you and Pat and JacLee and all the other wonderful friends I have made here on the Hog.

Hi Pat, all the Steves, TeriO, HorseArt, and all the other great shooters out there. I've grabbed a few bus shots with my trusty Sony H70, and am uploading them after this. There are some miscellaneous shots also, all taken recently in Delhi, India.
The shots of the bicycle resting in the shade were taken with my Nikon Coolpix P500. The shiny new bicycle, if anyone remembers, is none other than the resurrected MAIL TODAY machine, which was pretty rusty after last year's monsoons and appears to have been discarded shortly after I sent my photo to the Editor of the said tabloid.
