I'm considering switching from the Mac program Aperture (no longer supported) to the $50 Affinity program. I'm never going to be a "professional", more an "enthusiast" and I suspect Affinity will meet my needs for the next 10 years. I have previously purchased a plug in called "Toon-It" which I really like. Does anyone know if "Toon-It" will interface with Affinity?

Thank you in advance with any information you may provide.

Never heard of Toon-It so I googled. That looks like fun!

The website says:

Affinity does not have a library, so this will not replace aperture in that aspect. If just for editing, than great..

Affinity is a great program and has many supportive videos. Use your Mac to create files and sub files creating your own catalog

I cannot even get the NIK to plug into Affinity, but can to Aperture. I doubt it will work until Affinity upgrades it's ability to use other plug-ins. I have been using Affinity for about 6 months and it is quite a bit like PS, even in it's menus. Pretty slick and not sure how deep but it can get very technical like PS can.

I suggest you take a look at and consider ACDSee as a replacement -- they have several levels of programs that are price competitive with Affinity and I think provide more options.

I tried to do the process a month ago, like Martinfisher sent, and all it did was crash the Affinity area of Preferences. I tried it over and over to no avail. Guess I am too computer challenged to progress any further. I am using High Sierra on a Mac Pro 6 core, 32 gig memory, should not have caused this machine to crash.

I use Affinity and both NIK and Topaz Studio work fine with it on my system.

Affinity is a memory hogger, you will need plenty of RAM, at least 16 gb otherwise your photos will take around 30-40 seconds to import a photograph and about the same time to save/export the edited image.
My PC has 12gb and Affinity uses 60-70% of it.

They are working on a DAM for 2018, but whether it looks like Lightroom or something like Bridge is anyone's guess.

I have Nik plug-ins working in Affinity as well as Topaz plug-ins.

Wow! At $129, that is one very expensive single plugin for Photoshop.

I don't understand what you are saying, Affinity Photo is not a plug-in to Photoshop and cost $50 compared to Photoshop CC subscription at $120/year or are you talking about Tun-it?

I am not too sure how many people really know much about Affinity Photo, unless they are or were MAC users. I tried Photoshop Elements and was not happy with that, same with Pixemator and was really looking at going to the Adobe Photoshop setup, until they decided to rent the software month to month. That moved me over to Affinity Photo and I made the purchase thinking I could slip right into it with the on line tutorials, etc. Not a simple fit as tutorials seem to assume you knew more about AP than was being said in the "how to" videos. Myself, and others, kept asking for some type of resource book to help us gain knowledge and proficiency with the program. AP just released a really good hardbound workbook containing many projects that you can work through and really get a grip on what you are doing and what the software can do. Really recommend the workbook if you are new to AP, or are struggling with aspects of the software. AP does not yet have a DAM, so you either have to create your own "library" or use some other application for a DAM. Supposedly, AP is working on a Dam for release, in the future, and based on how the workbook came out, that could be 1+ year(s). At any rate, I am happy with AP, the price is more than fair for what you get and it is updated on a frequent basis. Their support is very good and the online forum is supported by both endusers and AP staff for quick answers and problem resolution. Hope this helps in your decision process.
