Yes, that IS interesting, J ...

When I first wrote about hot shoes here on bridges - because all of my Fuji Finepix models had them, and my most recent - the Panasonic Lumix FZ-70 ... I made the assumption they ALL did ... but, when I checked it, later - was most disappointed to note neither Canon had one, nor either Nikon, nor the Sony ... nor the Olympus ...

Thanks for cluing me into the fact both models Canon released AFTER my two - had them ... I wonder if the next one will (due, any day, now) ....

Good question. The replacement for the SX60 has certainly been long anticipated. It seems to me that since they have waited this long, Canon must be making some potentially impressive design changes beyond increasing the total zoom, in order to compete with recent bridge models from competitors. Three Nikon Bridges use the 24-1440 range ... two Panasonic Lumix (FZ-70, FZ-80) are slightly wider - at 20-1200, plus a Samsung has the same range ....

And, then - of course - three are significantly longer - the Sony H400 at 1550mm, the Kodak AstroZoom 651 at 1560mm, and the Nikon P900 at 24-2000mm ...

If they want to do better - they have to extend on both ends, AND get back the quality they had in the earlier ones - the SX-30 IS, the SX-40 HS, and the SX-50 HS ....

.... Which quality all went to hell, with the SX-60 HS ... as I understand it, J ....

Well, Hopefully they don't wait too long to release it. As you noted, they are already well behind their competitors.

I wouldn't say they're really behind, J .... as Canon carved out its own niche - with the SX-60 HS - going wide to 21 ... and then, also - long - out to 1365 ...

None of the ones with the really long end ... have gone beyond 24 on the wide end ...

And the others which go wide out to 20 ... all end up at 1200 ....

So, the Canon Powershot SX-60 HS - competes with 'em ALL - on BOTH ends ....

But, I suspect - if they really want to compete with Nikon, they need to, at LEAST - better them on 1440 - used on three ... and going to 2000mm wouldn't hurt either ... as long as they did it ... maintaining the wide end - at 20-21 ... at the same time .... THEN - they'd REALLY have something to talk about ....
