It's definitely earlier than '54.

You know there are still going to be posters who don't bother to, at the least, skim through the pages. Head, meet wall.

Hi, definitely a 1950, the subtle grille changes are the difference in the 1949 to 1952 Chevrolets, a Deluxe model was also introduced with these models...the 1953-54 models, as has been mentioned was a square body style that only was produced for two years, preceding the 1955 year model which introduced the V8 engine....

'introduced the overhead valve V8'
Ford had been offering a V8 since the 30's but it was a flat head and not any where close to the OHV. Personally I believe that is what propelled the Chevy sales and not so much the style. The '55 Chevy was fresh, the '55 Ford also, Plymouth/Dodge, barf.
Edit; Ford put an OHV V8 in their cars starting in '54 but the Chevy engine was newer and better. (I was a Ford fan back then but the truth is the truth. I had a 51 ford convertible for a while that I put a Chevy 283 in. The fords axles couldn't handle it.)

The taillights on the '49 and'50 are basically the same, but quite different than the '51 and '52

'introduced the i overhead valve /i V8' br Ford ... (show quote)

All true, and at 239ci, the Ford OHV block was a bit smaller displacement than Chevy's first V8 at 265ci, and it's amazing how much this small block Chevy has evolved over the years!

I just received my February 2018 issue of Shutterbug Magazine, and noticed on page 73, that a nice B&W photo of a Chevy Car is listed as a 1954 model. It looks more like an earlier model to me. Am I wrong? Taken by a Graflex 22 camera.

Here is a picture.
