As most I would go with new...$50 more on the purchase for new don't even think about it. Have been dealing with Cameta for years and Enzo has always taken care of me. They do have some wiggle room on price as I have found out buying refurbished lenses. They don't list many Canon refurb products but if you call them somehow they appear....

Hey guys I am going to purchase a Nikon D7200 one way or another. After a lot of pricing research I see Cameta has a refurbished at $749 with a 1 year warranty and a few other sites have new at about $800. The same body and accessories with the 1 year warranty. It's not so much the $50 savings, I would probably add a remote shutter release anyway, but why spend more for the same thing? Plus Cameta has been my go store for awhile. I have never bought a refurbished body before. I have bought 2 refurbished lenses from Cameta before with excellent results so what do you think? Thanks and Happy Holidays.

I am in the disagreeable (or at least disagreeing) minority that prefers Nikon refurbs. Just ordered my sixth (D5600). All previous have come in new condition with low shutter counts and performed flawlessly.
All new products have a small percentage that will have early failures, usually due to manufacturing errors but sometimes due to a faulty component. Refurbs are likely to be past that and are checked individually by a Nikon tech.
I have never needed a Nikon warranty but do buy my refurbs from Cameta because their one year warranty is automatic and free compared to A and B. And their service is as good.
I consider refurbs better than new.
800$ sounds like a good as long as its from Adorama, B&H or Cameta. They make up the ABC of where to buy a camera. Adorma and Cameta also sell on eBay.
Thanks guys for all your insights. I will go with a new unit. Never bought a refurb body before only 1 lens a 18-140 with excellent results so far. Damn! wifey just asked me to explain the difference between FX and DX bodies and when I did she said " why don't you just go with the FX body"? So now I'm thinking 750!! Hmmm

One pays for peace of mind. Personal choice.
Many Refurbs failed at one time as a NEW camera when first lit up. When returned to the store FTC regulation requires them not to be resold as new. The original sale is logged and refurbished is the only category of sale. Some Refurbs may never have taken a picture as a new camera.
All manufacturer refurbs are tested against a check list. Not all new cameras are tested before packed and shipped for sale.
It's not legal for a store to repack a return for any reason and sell as new.
JC folks. $50 is TEN Daily Double burgers and a large soda at MacaDees. Best burger at best value on the menu!!!!!.

I always hesitate to buy refurbished gear after my experience with two such computers. In both cases the old problems recurred. I have purchased both used and refurbished lenses with good results but just thinking about refurbished cameras gives me the fan-tods.

Interesting post. Reality is sometimes different than excepted urban myths.
The large percentage of Nikon refurbs are consumer returns. Of those the vast majority are returned because the consumers are incapable of understanding the operation of the camera or the consumer perceives a problem exists with the camera that they cannot figure out, so they return it. Most returns have low shutter counts because they have not been used to any degree of understanding of all of the many functions of the camera. Most returned camera's are functioning normally, it's the operator who has malfunctioned.
Now to the second urban myth. Many folks think the refurbished camera's go through more extensive individual testing than those that came off the production line. WRONG AGAIN. Most of the time the tech simply use the reset prodical and then does a basic test on the shutter, that is about it unless something goes wrong during this basic inspection. The camera then goes to the packing kid how specializes in carefully repacking the camera as it was done when new. Please don't flatter yourselves thinking some bench tech spent 20-30 minutes on that refurb. I am not saying that returns are not a great value. They are, and the manufacture stands behind them for a reasonable length of time. But remember, most all refurbs had nothing wrong with them in the first place, only perceived issues. Again, I am not talking here about recall issues, that's a different can of worms. By the way, nearly all returned lenses are returned because the consumer thinks they got a bad copy. Nearly all of these lenses are a bargain. Don't ever be afraid of one. Remember, one man's floor is another man's ceiling.
Well, $50 bucks is $50 bucks. You could buy an extra battery or charging kit.

Always good to buy the best you can afford! If you already have FX lenses, you can buy an FX camera without the added expense of acquiring lenses right away.

Although FX cameras are generally bigger and heavier. And if you are into wildlife you may get many more Megapixels on the DX area. The D750 only uses about 10 MP on the DX area. D5xxxs and D7xxxs 24.
My opinion, for such a relatively small difference in price, I would absolutely go with new.
Happy holidays.
A slight variation on the subject. When I was starting to get serious I purchased a refurbished Nikon 300 f/4 lens. It worked flawlessly.
I bought my 7200 from Cameta this September. Came with 211 actuations. Near perfect. If you are buying body only (and I had considered that), I would have spent the $50 for new. In my case, I needed a lens so had Cameta build and price me the “kit” I needed included a lens, extra battery, and about 6 other things. Priced separately, this gave me a good deal, but only because I needed and wanted the other items.
Body only, spend the $50 and have full peace of mind

I like refurbished but there should be more than a $50 difference vs new.
