I just received my D850 and have read Nikon's manual but still have some questions. In the past I have used Thom Hogan's Guides (D300 & D800) but he hasn't published one yet. Which alternatives have other D850 users found useful?

I'm not seeing anything available until March for David Busch and May for Darryl Young, both excellent choices. Check Amazon for D850 books and you'll find them.

There are several options available in Amazon books, however, since you have the manual, i would just start playing with the menu options in the camera. Enjoy your new camera!

I have kind of an of-the-wall idea. Looking at my D850, I see that it appears to be a D500 in FX form. Everything is located in the same spot on each camera. My experience with other Nikons tells me that, until a book specifically for the D850 becomes available, the very good books that have been written for the D500 may come in quite handy. I have ordered one from Amazon. Just sayin.

Mine came with a manual and I got mine when they first came out. I was lucky enough to be on the pre order list and got it within thre days of release. Also, you can go out to the nikon USA web site and download a manual. I seems to be a lot more straight forward than manuals of the past. Either that or I am just understanding what they’re saying more these days.

Steve Parry wrote 2 books that cover the Nikon D850. One is "Secrets to Nikon The Nikon Autofocus System" and the other is " Secrets to Stunning Wildlife Photography", both provide excellent guidance on the menu selections that the D850 uses. Another excellent book is " Nikon D850 Experience- The Still Photography Guide to Operation and Image Creation with the Nikon D850" by Douglas Klostermann. Douglas also wrote another book "Nikon D850 Menu and Custom Setting Setup Guide and spreadsheet"

Thanks but mine did come with a manual and if you read the original post, you would see that I did read the supplied manual.
