Mini Theme: A step back in time - Bunratty, Ireland.
Nice shots; it always amazes me to see how colorful the building are painted in even a tiny, secluded village. We did a 10-day B&B tour of Ireland's southern coast a few years ago. We did the Bunratty castle tour and found other poster's description of "Disneyesque" to be accurate. We wondered if this was the reality of medieval castle life or a "tourist expectation" recreation. However, there were loads of very authentic castles throughout our journey and I highly recommend doing a car rental/B&B trip as we did. Along with great historical structures, there are beautiful 300 and 400-year-old formal gardens open to the public. A wonderful place for photography.

We stayed in a great B&B there about 10 years ago. Bunratty is close to Shannon Airport so it's a convenient spot to begin/end a trip to the West of Ireland.
We enjoyed the Village, despite the Disney quality, and the Castle as well; although we chose to skip the Medieval Dinner.
"Dirty Nelly's" purports itself to be one of the oldest pubs in Ireland. It is touristy but we managed to get there on a night when there were no buses in the parking lot and were treated to some great music by a couple of locals in one of the side rooms. We're looking forward to another visit!

Funny you should mention the Medieval Dinner at Bunratty Castle. We were at the dinner on our honeymoon 40 years ago. They served mead at the dinner which is wine made from honey. It is supposed to enhance fertility and is the traditional drink of newly weds - hence 'Honeymoon' or 'Mi na meala' - 'month of honey' in Irish. During the meal somebody revealed we were on our honeymoon. The whole whole place started banging the tables and shouting 'Get the mead into you Phil'. I was then dragged away by the Sheriff and thrown in the dungeon until I drank my mead.
Good fun. Thanks for reminding me.

Here you are Don. It is one of those old establishments where the pub is at the back of the general store.
