Thanks Chris!

Indeed in Oregon, as you enter the John Day Fossils, this is one of the first scenes that will wow you.

What did you use? ... How did you do them? ... How did you piece them together? ... Do you have one you might like to share?

I'm using a m4/3 from Panasonic with a moderate zoom. I like hand holding it vertically and shoot RAW.

I scan for a line to follow then repeat the scan with shots overlapping by about 20%.

I piece them together using Lightroom. It is dead simple.

Two to share:

Why do you overlap them 20%, Bill ....

Doesn't that make them difficult to line up?

Yup, Tom ... I sure will ... next time I have a hankering to go to the west coast ... only 3000 miles away, you know ... still, a week's driving should do it!

The chances of that is as slim as me going towards the east. Lol

Lightroom does the line up, not me. Lightroom uses the overlap to get the alignment and any exposure adjustments needed for the seamless blend. Because of the overlap, the Lightroom process make so simple that there really is no needed skill level.

This Digital Photography School article ( https://digital-photography-school.com/step-by-step-using-merge-to-panorama-in-lightroom/) suggests 30%. It also gives some pointers on locking exposure and focus so the shot series is consistent. The article suggests a need for a tripod. It probably is a good idea, but it is far from necessary.

I used to think that, when I was young. But, then - in 1972 - I did - just that!

So - you never know how the wind's gonna break - do ya?

They suggest that, Bill - as it keeps them all on the same plane ....

Myself ... I prefer 757s ....
