I would like to keep all my cameras, lenses, flash, etc. in one trunk or case. This would be at least 2-3 Nikons, 7-8 lenses (not my Sigme 150-600), battery pack for Nikon, soft box. etc. I in no way would I travel on a plane or train with this trunk Its greatest use will be in the back of my SUV or in my study. I will then take out what I need and place in a camera bag. (I could now be considered a serious camera bag accumulator.)
I would like the trunk/case to have wheels on it. It would be nice to open it and have every camera, lens, flash be viewable. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Look at the pelican model 1650 with the trekpak system. My wife had me order it off Amazon for my Christmas present. The trekpak and the case were 400 and change but it is much better than the pick and pluck foam
Here is the set up sorry a little blurry cell phone pic but you get the idea
Sorry I forgot to mention get the lid organizer as well it's another 40$ it attaches to the inside of the lid great for storing all your cables and extra doo dad's. I installed it after this pic was taken

That's a lot of gear. I recommend Pelican cases, I have several. They have several wheeled versions, and several versions that come with dividers instead of foam. Combining wheeled with dividers narrows their selection.
The Pelican 1654 is a version of the wheeled 1650 with dividers; it comes with a yellow divider set that helps visibility and will hold much of what you have indicated (although a softbox might be a stretch).
You might want larger; I like the 1604 but it's not wheeled (I did put an add-on wheel set on it, but I don't know if that's still available).
You should gather all the gear you want to put in it, organize it in three rows with spacing to account for dividers, and measure. That will give you an idea of the size you need. Try it with long lenses vertical or horizontal; that will also give you an indication of what depth you need.
Check the Pelican web site for more info.
These days, I find it more convenient to load my gear into a couple of camera bags, and then bring a couple of smaller bags to load up with what I need. The Pelican cases don't get much use these days. A couple of roller suitcase bags would easily hold your gear.

Awhile back, I picked up several fiberglass shipping containers used by JVC to ship commercial video cameras. Cheap, light weight, tough as nails, o-ringed and waterproof with locks, wheels and pressure relief valves -total weight 5- 10lbs. No clue where you might find an equivalent, but lacking that, a large Pelican style case seems like a good answer.

Just a thought: One case in the SUV easier for you to handle and for thieves to spot and steal.

That's a great idea. I have old steamer trunk. Remember them? In the old days, rich people would load them aboard a steamship so they would have lots of stuff with them for their trans-Atlantic crossing. Now I just use it for storage.

That's quite a case! You could put individual plastic storage cases inside it. Good price, too. I remember seeing vertical steamer trunks, and when they were opened, they had drawers on both sides.
That was my first thought when I saw Topeka, KS and SUV. As a minimum, I would want a bomb proof way to lock the case to the floor.
I don't know how available they are but an old military foot locker would be great. What I like is they have a large tray on top and open space in the bottom. I don't like the idea of having to move gear on top to get to something stored lower. The less you need to move things the less chances are you will drop or jar something by accident. The military foot locker has a strong wooden tray on top that can be lifted so nothing in the top tray needs to be relocated. regardless of which design you choose, consider using a strong divider to separate layers of gear.
I couldn't agree more. I know several Birders in Southern California who have had their cars broken into at Bolsa Chica Wetlands when thieves see them open a trunk and leave a case full of gear.
