Nikon WSJ Centerfold

Did anyone else on this forum get a large Nikon USA Black Friday Sale centerfold in their WSJ today? Seems unlikely that Nikon would try to appeal to all the Wall Street Journal subscribers. Do they have some means of targeting those of us with an interest? if so, where do they get that information? Maybe I'm just kind of paranoid.

Perhaps they had advert money they needed to spend.

Or perhaps they are advertising in multiple news papers. The odds of them stuffing advert flyers selectively in news papers based on recipient and said recipient's interests is slim to none.

I'm sure you're right there. Just seemed so coincidental. Nikon sale pricing: D850 $3299.95, Nikkor 70-200 $2599.95, etc., etc.

They might think WSJ readers tend to have more money than readers of other publications.

$200.00 off on the lens. I wouldn't consider the back ordered d850 a sale

The real news is that now Nikon is offering a free vertical grip and reducing the price of many camera's including the D810, D750, and the D500. And many offer the 16-80 and 24-120 lenses at 50% off when combined with the camera. If anyone is interested in any of these camera's now may be the time for your GAS ATTACK to take effect. Also, NIKON.USA.COM has many specials on individual Nikon glass. GAS, GAS, and more GAS.

I did. Not quite sure what to think. I usually go fishing on Black Friday. Everyone else is in the malls...

Not everyone. I’ve never participated in the annual hysteria known as “Black Friday”. Hope you have a story to tell

I had to smile when I first read this comment and thread. Of course Nikon is using the WSJ to target it's customers and future customers. Maybe Thruxton has never filled out any type of questionnaire, anywhere or anytime. The fact that you are a WSJ subscriber, and many other WSJ subscribers have filled out questionnaires that indicate their hobbies and preferences, will mean that companies like Nikon will target those who are likely interested in photography or will make decisions concerning purchases for others who are interested in photography. Also, it could be more 'nefarious' in that WSJ subscribers probably travel more than the general public. And when you travel, you likely take pictures. Who better to target than these travelers, who, if a WSJ subscriber, have a higher disposable income than most. The WSJ promotes their subscriber demographics to all major advertising agencies. You may not drink wine, but I bet you have received promotions regarding the WSJ Wine Club. Or, you may or may not purchase Louis Vuitton handbags or luggage; but LV is a prominent advertiser with the WSJ. Today it is unreasonable to have any expectation of anonymity. In fact, your comment is proof that Nikon is on to something with their ad in the WSJ, as you not only noticed it, but continued 'promoting' the brand in other ways. On another note, I have made some great purchases during this time of year with Nikon's specials.
