Why Can’t Posters Answer The Questions Asked?

My take on this thread, why ask a question of the general audience? You know you are gonna get a mixed bag of answers! Study the topic, learn about the members, and send a PM to a few that seem to share your interests....just sayin...
This forum is made up of wonderful folks armed with an incredible amount of knowledge on the subject of photography. But in my way of thinking, it is our responsibility to evaluate what is worthy information from which to go forward.

I think Jim Bob because this forum serves many purposes. We learn and grow but it serves in a relationship way also. Many are retired and just enjoy relating to others here. Some can't get out as they use to. HH is a way to keep the brain active and to push loneliness away. And this is good for all of us. There is much talent to be shared and good friends to be found. A more direct, concise answer can be found by goggling but here a conversation can be had with a friend. So I suppose choose how you prefer to get answers to questions. Understand what you are saying but hey, in this world as it is, does it really matter.

I'm retired, 69 years old and have health problems. That doesn't justify making irrelevant comments.

I guess (as I have seen nobody actually admitted it) that many people already decided on the answer but they just want a confirmation from others.

Hell yeah, it matters.

Ask about a Sigma or Tamron. They respond with Nikon. Asked about which UV filters are best. They respond with a lecture about not using filters. What is wrong with the comprehension of many posters on this site? Why is it that they feel like telling a poster what question to ask? This is pervasive on this site. I am only interested in direct and relevant answers if you choose to respond at all. Please avoid paternalistic replies,“leave if you don’t like it” or other idiotic responses.

This is much more common with Canon & Nikon “fanboys”....
In all fairness: the best response, in my opinion, is to first answer the direct question and then provide alternatives, if desired. These are conversations....

Mac, I am sorry about your health issues and will pray for you. Guys, please forgive me for going off topic and committing the same sin about which I complain.

Thanks for all (or at least most) responses. Keep it going if you wish. I will say that those who argue it is a public forum miss the point entirely. Language has a purpose and it is totally frustrated when folks ignore what is asked and instead, substitute their own agenda.

Thanks JB. I think that was a legitimate question that you asked.

The poster is absolutely correct. If the question is specific, the answers should be too. I would rather see fewer answers that are all relevant to my question. I'm sure we all have seen something like a question about a Nikon camera option and answers like "My Canon doesn't have that option". That's the kind of response that is annoying. Thank you for the post.

Many of us don’t have sense enough to know better.

Any time you have a large group, you will have your share of people that do not follow protocols. Most of us joined to improve our photography skills and help others improve theirs. Unfortunately, some people joined for other reasons such as show off (or so they think), stir the pot, or bloviate. Not much we can do about them other than to ignore their posts. You can "block" specific users if they are consistently ignorant in your profile under the ignore feature. They will not be able to post to your topics and you will not see their posts.

Howard, sometimes a curt answer is a disservice. I was travelling in Africa many years ago and, needing some cash, I asked some locals in the town where the bank was. They pointed me in the right direction alright, but when I got to the building the bank was closed. I came back to the folks and mentioned this, and their answer was that I had not asked if the bank was open. An answer that told me where the bank was, augmented by the fact that the bank was closed at that time, would have been much more helpful.

Is it a sin to use profanity to an old lady who was trying to be healthful and thoughtful? You are forgiven Jimbob.

True; they should have added the fact that the bank was closed. (BTW, you could have just been meeting someone there). I see a difference between that and offering an unsolicited opinion about Chicago (or the bank).

Well those of us with compassion and empathy don’t have problems with those who are mentally challenged. It’s the posters who know better that create the issues of irrelevance.
