Just purchased this printer and have used it 2 times. When I turned it on last night, the carriage started bouncing back and forth and then slammed itself to the far left- very hard. I turned it off and on, and it did the same thing. I am on a deadline and Canon support is closed on the weekends, so I thought I would ask you hoggers if this has ever happened to you, and if it is a simple fix, or a return. Thanks in advance.

Never happened to me but I would take out each cartridge and reseat it for starters.. as well as take a good look at each one.

I don't remember ever seeing mine do this, but maybe you should let it do it's thing. It may just be reinitializing itself.

Strange. Never happened to me. I would remove all the cartridges and see if anything looks out of place in there. Then take a look inside and see if there is anything loose or out of place. That's a very heavy machine to send somewhere, so I hope you don't have to pay shipping charges. You can get a new one for $130 after the rebate.

I did “let it do it’s thing” but it did not correct itself. I will reseat the cartridges and hope that helps.

That looks like the solution. When I clicked on the link, I got the article and my Print screen. Odd.

I see that the strip is not connected on the right side. Problem is that I cannot access it. Bummer.

The print screen appearing is something that I noticed after switching to the Edge browser.

Yes, and, of course, nothing odd ever happens when using a computer.

Bummer! The case is probably snapped together, so you might be able to take it apart with breaking it. Might. On the other hand, there could be screws on the bottom. Taking it apart can be very risky, though. It's like they add booby traps for owners who want to repair them. Tiny springs can go flying as you release something. You'll never find the springs, so it doesn't matter where they're supposed to go.

What exactly is that "strip"? Is it an electrical connection? To the print head? Google might have a solution.

It’s a new printer. Don’t mess with it. Either arrange for a return to the seller or call Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON and arrange for repair.
