After only a few weeks in the number one position, the Nikon D850 has been knocked down to the number two spot by the Hasselblad X1D 50C.
The ratings are provided by dxomark. com.
The Nikon D850 was the first camera to receive a score of 100,
but the Hasselblad has received a score of 102.
(The ratings are NOT out of 100- it is a sliding scale.)

By the way, the Hasselblad sells for about $9,000 U.S.
It has a 50-megapixel sensor.

Quite a while back, the Pentax 645 Z scored a 101, that was several weeks ago!

The Sony A7RII was the top camera for two years with a score of 98.
We can presume the A7RIII will score even higher.

This is all very strange. In some sense, DxOMark never should have announced the D850 as #1, because they had tested the Pentax 645Z at 101, but then decided they weren’t prepared to deal with Medium Format , so they “withdrew” that rating - I wonder what has changed since then.

That will be interesting to see since the III uses the same senor as the II,
A few years ago the Nikon D610 rated a tad lower than the D600, which it replaced, although they are the same camera for all intents and purposes.

Rich the A7RIII has the same 42.4 megapixel sensor but with new processing and architecture which improves the low light sensitivity and performance.

Since low light performance plays a major role in DxOMARKS scoring, I expect the new camera to score higher...

And if the folk there include the Pixel Shift multi-shot mode in their testing, then the score will REALLY shoot up over the A7RII.

With that news I guess I'll have to cancel my D850 order. Glad it hasn't shipped yet.

Oh wait, I never ordered one. I'm holding out for a score of 107.

You have a good point about the processor. If there's a major uptick just from that will we then see an D850A with a new processor? Fun times

I do. Improving higher-ISO performance is important to me.

EXACTLY!!!

Improved performance means competition... and competition is ALWAYS good for the consumer.
