I have an error message, I think. When I press the shutter button 1/2 way, it doesn't focus and there's an f EE icon on the right.
Also, in the View Finder there is no green dot in the far left.
I cannot press the shutter button to take a picture; it won't let me.
Please help.
Sorry to hear that. The D70 is a nice camera. I had mine converted to IR.
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned cleaning the camera-to-lens contacts. That's usually an early suggestion. You've tried other lenses.
As for not being able to push the shutter button, one of the first things I do with a new camera is go into the Menu and set the shutter release to take a picture whether the camera has focus or not. You can still focus manually, right?
If you decide to get rid of the camera, sell it on ebay, "For Parts."
SD card? My D90 got me ,too
I had a similar issue with the shutter on that camera. Tried everything. Sent it to Nikon for a long hospital stay. $250 later... the shutter worked sometimes. Bought a Nikon 7000, had the same problem, sent it back, got a new shutter release and no more problem. Probably not what you wanted to hear. Sorry.
I have a stupid question. Is your lens is an Auto Focus lens?

Apparently, it used to be.

Try the 2 button reset. If the camera is set to auto focus the lens will be difficult to manually focus.
Yes, lens says AF. I gave up. I smashed the camera into the ground and then the dumpster. I paid $60 for it and I couldn't stand it any more.
I had a problem like that...... and the cause was the lens not being fully attached and locked on. I removed the lens and then put it back on camera and everything was fine after that.
I removed the lens and replaced it several times.
Tried cleaning the contacts on both the lens and the camera?
The contacts were not oxidized nor cloudy and it doesn't matter now. I'm not following this thread any more, I destroyed the crap.

I agree. It's not worth it.
I tried everything here.
clean your lens contacts and camera contacts with alcohol. Mine did this years ago and the contacts were dirty. That error message means that the lens is not communicating with the camera.
