I have an error message, I think. When I press the shutter button 1/2 way, it doesn't focus and there's an f EE icon on the right.
Also, in the View Finder there is no green dot in the far left.
I cannot press the shutter button to take a picture; it won't let me.
Please help.

Close the aperture ring on the lens to its smallest setting, f/16 or f/22.

I just did and it won't auto focus when pressing shutter button 1/2 way

Did the fEE go away? If the shutter fires now, look for an AF/MF switch.

No auto focus pressing shutter 1/2 way. fEE went away, no green light in far right in View Finder,

Look for an autofocus switch on the lens or the body.

Found AF/M switch, it makes no difference. Can manual focus, but it is very difficult to do. I can hardly see it. Still camera will not let me fully press shutter button to take any picture.

Look in the troubleshooting section of the manual. You can download a pdf from Nikon for free.

Or try a different lens. Or get someone to look at it with you. There is something going on I can’t see from here.

Read manual. Pressed reset switch on bottom of camera. no change. pressed shutter button 1/2 way again, no focus. r10 is on right in View Finder when 1/2 shutter button. Cannot take picture. r10

"r10" is not an error message. It's just telling you how many shots you have left before your buffer fills up.

Check out this link: https://www.richardpeters.co.uk/nikon-dslr-error-codes-what-do-they-mean/

There are lots of possible and very fundamental problems that you could be facing. Once you figure it out you will probably kick yourself.

Here are a few more suggestions, some of them might sound silly:

- Have you changed the mode selector (P/S/A/M)?
- Have you removed and re-attached the lens? Is it a Nikon lens?
- Has this lens ever worked in autofocus before on that camera? Is it an autofocus lens? Does it have its own AF/MF switch? Does it work on another camera?
- Will the shutter fire if you set the camera or lens to manual focus?
- Is the battery charged?
- Have you removed and re-inserted the memory card? Can you view existing preview images? Is the card full? Have you formatted it in the camera?
- Have you tried a Two-Button Reset (page 111)?

I have not had my hands on a D70 for years. You might have better luck someone locally who can get you going again and explain what is going on.

Or you could call Nikon.

What precise lens are you trying to use on the camera? Google "Nikon body lens compatibility chart".

I had a D70 do that a long time ago. My nephew brought it into Melville where they fixed it free of charge even though it was long out of warranty. He was told there was an 'unannounced' recall. It may have expired by now, but worth a phone call.

BTW - a year later it did the same thing and I trashed it.

If you can’t find a free solution, don’t spend any money on it. Replace it with something newer from KEH.

I agree. It's not worth it.
I tried everything here.
