I can't believe that people are still hung up on how they pay for their software - which is all that the subscription model is - an alternate way to pay.

They forget (or reject the notion) that there are over 9,000,000 users, and their user base continues to grow. Some even go as far as saying that this is an example of corporate greed. Clearly those really don't understand business dynamics. You make a product that works for a large segment of the target audience, market it, support it, and continue to build in quality and features to make the software more desirable and better than the competition - and somehow this is corporate greed. I am certain that these same people, if they were at the head of a company that provided a product and service, would do no differently. And they would not base their business model on a bunch of disgruntled users who REFUSE to get updates - or contribute ANYTHING to the company's R&D budget, and are completely delusional in thinking that a perpetual license gives them something that they own and is better than using new software. At least until they get a new camera and completely disappointed that their 6 yr old software does not support their new camera. Wow, I'd love to see a business model that supports this fringe element. In fact, these "fringies" are supported, at least for a little while, in the Adobe business model - and they are 100% subsidized by the 9M+ who gladly fork over a small fee every month to get good software that is always up to date and gets better with every new release.

It's funny that the overwhelming majority of whiners are people who don't use it or refuse to get current. Hard to take them seriously, since it's clear that they are generally clueless.

Who cares ! Never liked Lightroom anyhow with its file catalog system..... Photoshop teamed up with ON1 which is also a plug in to Photoshop is perfect combo. ACR is just fine and I can plug in to Develop and Effects in ON1.

I'm not a big fan of the necessity to import first, but did you ever get a chance to use Lightroom? In my opinion it has a more sophisticated interface then ON1. I'm not a Lightroom fanboy. In fact I rarely use it anymore.

Yeah, but reruns are also suitable for watching.

Hey I learn something new every day. I had no idea Orville Redenbacker had it's own branded hot air popcorn maker. Cool stuff . . .

It takes a little bit of concentration to initially understand it, but it works just as well as any DAM software (Digital Asset Management), but it is more tightly integrated with the editing software. It is the cornerstone of any complete file management system solution for single users. The industrial strength products are both multi-user and cross platform and considerably more expensive. Lightroom has saved me 1000s of hours of time spent managing files since 2010, when I first started using it. I am not an Adobe fan, but I am able to put personal bias aside and can be objective, recognizing quality software when I see it. I don't have to like the corporation, as long as it makes software that continues to address my needs and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I use LR, PS, On1Raw, CaptureOne and DXOPHotoPro - for those precise reasons. Each is a great product in it's own right, but each does some things that the other does not - and all are relatively easy to learn and use.

This is a great review and recommendation coming from a non-user. Lot's of unfounded allegations and negative criticism based on no first hand experience. But opinions are neither right or wrong - they are just opinions and everyone is entitled to have one.

Your ASS-umption that I'm a non-user makes you look silly. And now to educate you...

1. I used macs for years at work. They did the exact same job and had the exact same technical problems that PCs do but at twice the price and with no upgradeability. No thanks, I prefer to have two up-to-date, better-performing and totally-customizable PCs than one mac trash can full of obsolete hardware from 2011 locked up tight inside. But you apple-heads should definitely keep spending hilarious amounts of money on that logo alone, you wouldn't want to be seen at Starbucks without it, LOL.

2. I've used Adobe products since way back when they were actually worth paying for, I was even an Adobe-certified instructor on Photoshop 7. Their software used to simply start up and run, without any background programs or services necessary. Now there's "Application Manager", "Creative Cloud" or god knows what other services running all the time from the moment you log onto your system, pointlessly using system resources without any care for your preferences. And now, these arrogant c*nts don't even give the user the opportunity to decide where the software is installed, which is OUTRAGEOUS. My system has separate drives for the OS and the programs, and my installations WILL go to the f*cking programs drive one way or the other. If any software refuses this, then I will get a refund for that software and go straight to its main competitor. And before you get unjustifiably snarky and say "Adobe has no competition and therefore no need to worry", remember that there were once companies like Sears and Circuit City that also had no competition and no need to worry. Once a company is in that position, its greed invariably takes over and it becomes arrogant, just as Adobe has. And that's when the new, hungry companies come in, first scooping up the disenfranchised customers, then using those profits to advertise and become larger and more popular. That's how corporate giants get taken down, and Adobe is at full steam towards that end. They WILL be a victim of their own greed and that's exactly as it should be. I will enjoy watching them shrivel and die, just like all those other "untouchable" companies that many people haven't even heard of now. And if you think Adobe is too big to suffer this fate, then you're willfully ignoring history, which is the polar opposite of wisdom.

That's it for today's lesson. Here's a useful link:
