The audio recording is interesting, as well. Nicely done.

I love their voices. It's unlike any other bird on earth. As he is young, I expect you will have a friend for years to come. When raised in captivity, our crows can learn to speak clearly. Do you know if this applies to magpies?

Yes, they can speak. My father had a talking magpie when I was a kid--it could talk as well as any parrot. Earl.

The weather was wet & miserable & this young maggie paid me a visit. He was sitting on a rail at my back door. I slowly opened the screen door & he just sat & talked to me while I took a few pics, only 2' away. I have attached an audio (MP3 file) recording of his chat . Downloading is recommended.

Excellent series. I expect if you continue to feed him you will have a long relationship

He says he's cold and hungry and can he come inside for a spell to warm up and dry. And maybe a little lunch.

This would have been a great opportunity for a video.

Thanks for sharing.

He's nearly fully grown--he will fill out more & the gray will turn jet black. Adult Aussie maggies are nearly as big as a crow. They are nothing like their US cousins.

Earl.
