I took this photo of our chief when I was volunteering with the Sahuarita Police Department. At the time, I was working on getting photos of all of our command staff. The original photo was taken against a stucco wall. I dropped in the flag behind him.

Great job! It really looks like the chief was sitting in front of the flag! Really - great job!

Thanks!

There seems to be something new in the way the voting results are being displayed.

Each picture has been given a decimal number in the form of nn.nn, followed by a number in parentheses.

I don't understand the relationship between, or the significance of these two numbers.

I pulled this from the Contest FAQs and think it will help.

Voting

You can vote as many times as you like, but only have one voting point.
If you vote for multiple photos, your voting point gets divided across them all.

For example:

You see a photo you like and you vote for it. That photo now has a score of +1 point from you.
Later on, you see another photo you like and you decide to vote for it too. At this time, each of the two photos gets a score of +0.5 from you.
If you vote for yet another photo, then the three of them will get +0.33 points each from you.
And so on. The number of votes is only limited by the number of photos in the contest.

The rating of a photo is calculated as a sum of all points received from all users.

You can also revoke your vote for any photo at any time. Doing so recalculates your vote share.

So if we continue with the example above (you voted for three photos) and you decide to revoke your vote for one of the photos, then the two remaining photos would get +0.5 points from you added to their scores.

Such system allows you to "change your mind" in case some new photos get uploaded for the contest and you decide not to spread your voting power too thin. If the contest's settings allow it you can begin voting right away while keeping track of new photos added to the contest.

On the ratings page, each photo's rating is shown as two numbers like "4.5 (7)" -- which means the photo in question has a total of 4.5 points based on votes of 7 users.

To sum it up, you can vote for any many photos as you like. But your voting power gets spread across all photos for which you vote. So each photo gets a smaller bump in the score. On the other hand, more of the photos you like get a chance to be at the top of the contest.

From what you've said (above) we can vote for more than one photo. That seems to contradict what you said at the beginning of the contest when you indicated that "Everyone gets to vote, but remember if you vote more than once only your last vote counts."

Or maybe I just don't understand it.

You are correct. There were new rules added as the voting began that I wasn't aware of. I will have to revise the rules. Thanks for the catch!

Well, I understand it now... but I think it's stupid. (I know you didn't have anything to do with it, St3v3M, so this is more of a rant for the admin.)

I don't see the point of such added complexity for the simple contests we have here. I mean, is it really so hard to just pick a single winner?

Seriously, not only the Meo62's picture of two mugs perfectly fits the contest by displaying no other colours than R/W/B, it also celebrates the Independence Day! In the contest, there is no better picture than this one, and if it was submitted, it would have gotten my vote! Thanks for sharing!
