Yep, thought I was gonna dodge the bullet, but I got evacuated.

All my camera equipment and cash that was in the safe too!!!
Hopefully go back in a day or two!
Lots of smoke but so far no 🔥 🔥🔥!

At least at this point, you had time to think and gather the important things. A lot of people were lucky to get out alive with the clothes on their back and slippers! Hope you come back to an unscathed home.

CrashPlan works for me. Backs up external drives as well.

I will have to look into that. I would be backing up my 2 NAS, as that is what my off site back up is as well as plug in hard drives.

Yes, I have my fingers crossed that I won't have to evacuate. A couple friend that live a few miles closer than me already have!!

Mine are crossed for you. I have close friends and relatives in Napa (Silverado), Sonoma and Santa Rosa. Be safe.

Yes, close friends have a new home in Oakmont area Santa Rosa. News says fire from Annadel State Park is headed to that neighborhood and there aren't any available resources to fight it.

Yes, the fire started at night and manny were already asleep, then was fanned by 60mph winds. If you lived downwind the fire moved VERY fast and the embers carrying in the wind!!! That's the worst case scenario.
Just a knock on the door waking you up and telling you to get out NOW!
What a nightmare.

Then there's the earthquake, when there's no time for the knock on the door...

Fortunately there are still benefits to living in California...

I have thousands of my best shots on Flickr in dozens of albums, but now I'm also considering a (4th) portable hard drive for a box in the bank.

Would that be a local bank, or one in a different state or country? Even banks can burn, and if the whole neighborhood goes, what then?

You gotta play the odds.
