We had our payroll not show up one time. Called they checked with the driver he said he delivered it. We searched all around. Went to the neighbors. One wasn’t home . Checked the next day, Sure enough they had it . They didn’t bring it over because they thought it was to late. It was 6pm. I would recommend checking with your neighbors... good luck!

I bought a used lends on eBay (I live in CA). It was sent and delivered to someone in Alabama...just a tad bit off course. It was shipped FedEx... I don't know who screwed it up but eBay's guarantee paid me back fairly quickly. That being said, the worse part about all this is the time lost not having something you paid for but could certainly use which you did not receive. More time is lost working out the details. I believe all FedEx packages are required to be insured. Somebody needs to pony-up so you can reorder the lens and have it shipped by someone else toot sweet...

Post office has shipped for and had drop offs/pickups from Fedex, and UPS for many years, my wife worked with the USPS for over 17 years first as a clerk in Jamestown, California, and then Maui she unloaded from the airport and shipyard (this was in Maui) as well as at the end as she was close to retirement as a postal inspector,
she says that pretty close to a sixth of all lost package claims were from UPS customers back then she said fedex did not have many claims through them at least. It is funny how both these companies use the post office for package travel and give no credit to the post office, but as my wife has filled me in UPS and Fedex are a very large customer and as long as the money is good who gets the credit is of little matter.
The best thing a person using any shipper can do is make sure your package is insured and always require your signature, we have my signature on file at the post office and have recently with UPS this was due to our catching an idiot trying to swipe my meds from a UPS driver I heard the truck come up on the street in front of the house and I went out to meet him, there was a fellow there talking with the driver turns out he was saying he was me but that driver has delivered to us many times (nice to be in a small community), and he refused to give the guy the package which was morphine both quick release and 12 hour release the VA demands I be home to sign for these and I wholeheartedly agree, they also are the ones that had both me and my wife put our signatures on file with these shippers so if need be they can match up the signature to be sure it was in my hands not a druggy God how terrible that would have been had someone gotten those drugs. Oh yeah we and the UPS delivery fellow called the cops and guess what he was 3 blocks down trying to steal out of some mailboxes, as far as I know he went to jail. Luckily I have not lost a package on my side but when Mack Camera warranty sent my D800 back to me last year after having work done on it the package got lost and had it not shown back up in their mail they would have sent me a replacement they said and they then paid the extra to overnight it to me they even followed up to make sure I received it and all was good.

Shippers are notoriously "not liable" when things go awry. I found out quite by accident that even if the shipping originator pays extra for "signature required," the delivery guy just signs off on it. I was told by a UPS driver friend of mine that things shipped to a residential address get signed off by the driver, not the actual receiver because, "no one is ever home and we waste too much time and money on them." Crushed boxes, empty packages, etc., are nearly always dismissed by shipping companies as not their fault. It's a vicious world out there in shipping land. Items shipped to a business are required to get a signature from an actual person at the business, so I did that for a long time. My post office now accepts shipments from FedX and UPS for me, and since then I haven't had an issue! Don't know what their secret is.

What bothers me is FedEx and UPS deliver without ringing the doorbell. The USPS always rings the doorbell. Since I am frequently home, I rush down to pick up the package. I've never lost an item. I also receive an immediate notice by email if a package is delivered by FedEx or UPS. You can sign up for free and they notify you when something will be delivered and when it actually was. That way, you can notify your better half that a package was delivered and it can be brought inside.

I cannot understand why any outfit (FedEx or UPS) is allowed to just leave a package at a door or on a porch. It's incomprehensible to me.
It's way too easy for them to just ring a bell, drop something at the door and drive off just to keep on schedule. Not a good idea with so many thieves around. Many things are expensive. Why don't they do like USPS -- the postal service? If someone isn't home/doesn't answer when they ring the bell, they leave a note saying that they TRIED to deliver it, etc. and give you choices if you want it re-delivered or tell you where to pick it up. No one should ever be allowed to just drop things off. That's not being responsible. They should wait to talk to someone in person. If they wait a short while and no one answers, they should leave a note and take the package back to the truck.

As inconvenient as it is, I try to make any major purchase that is being mailed to me signature required just for that reason.

Never used to be a problem until this year, especially FedEx. I had a new front grille for my MBZ shipped from the east coast. It was supposedly signed for by someone named AAileen. There was no one here by that name. I had to have the next one sent to the body shop. I requested that all labels showing MBZ be covered over. Luckily they got it. Recently another item was supposedly signed for by someone named EEileen. Again, no one here by that name. Two more attempts made before I had it shipped to a condo office.

I have a friend who had ordered a special edition of a 1 oz gold piece. He signed for it, and then discovered the seal had been tampered with. No gold piece inside. He filed a claim, but since he had signed for it he was out of luck.

Will start requesting that the item be held at the distribution center for me to pick up, or use the Amazon lockers at 7-11.

UPS and Fedex are too cheap for that. Drop it and run is their policy. Their drivers are under a tight schedule.
And I believe these companies are so cheap they keep a tight leash on the drivers.

Fedx screws up here quite often. It's happened to me 3 times. Tracking said it was delivered. Same address, different town.
At least I know where to pick my order up. lol
