The title says otherwise.
O.J. Simpson FREED 12:08am today!

You selected that to have viewership, not to promote your work.

I have NOTHING to say about your work, I have no clue nor do I wish to have any. You are happy with it? Great. You are not? Great.

It would appear (from the sentence beneath the original photo caption) that there's a story behind the story. I can only read the first line, "If there ever was a lucky photograph to be made this was it." Care to share the rest of your account?

One has to understand the making of a photograph, steve_stoneblossom - you do not. The photograph that you are viewing, O.J. Simpson running with the footballball is a stopper within the first nine minutes of the game. I can tell, you have no experience photographing PRO SPORTS actions. You are talking about writing, I'm talking photographing.

Where is your CLASSIC RENOWNED PHOTO ??? Not a person that the world does not recognize. This photo shows a recognizable person. Do you think you're talking to the kids down the street ??? My photographs go to Vietnam 1966-68 - where's yours ??? AP

Once again you are incorrect! O.J. Simpson was mentioned on SUNDAY MORNING 9:00am this morning. Want more ? You still seem to pass judgement, SHAME ON YOU !!! Who do you think you are GOD ....! People here at UHH should read your RED WORDS in their dictionary!

UHH would drop you like a JOKE! You are make believe - AP

The photograph is great. The thread title positions it in a different and a political context.

This is a new world, and has different rules about communication. I would also send this to chit chat or the attic.

The OP has unfortunately positioned his work into a political cauldron. Good picture, poorly considered post.

Perhaps it may have been better as a 'tweet', they seem to be the divisive communications medium of the day, although of increasingly disputed effectiveness or value.

How is it political? He is a controversial figure who has just come out of prison after 9 years almost ironically due to his conviction relating to memorabilia relating to his life.

That's probably reason enough to bring up this old photograph. A memorable photo from the OP's career.

It's an attention grabbing title, certainly the content relates to photography. The photo is from OJ's glory days, and today he is released from prison at the age of 70.

Maybe some other members have photos of Marilyn, now that Hugh is to be buried/ interred beside her. It might be an apt time to post...

Oh I almost forgot OJ is getting an iPhone (according to the guardian) don't know if he will be using it for photography.

As mentioned in the past I was a freelance SPORTS photographer 15 years: 1969-84. This was my first PRO game a BIG one at that! The Buffalo Bills vs The New England Patriots Sunday November 6, 1976 - HOW OLD WERE YOU! Kneeling on the field with my Nikon FTN mono-pod mounted older Nikkor 300mm f4.5 with Kodak TRI-X ASA 400 b&w film.

Next to me on my left was Neil Lifer with his Nikon and mono-pod mounted Nikkor EDIF 400 f3.5 lens (a new not on the market yet lens) next to him was Walter Iooss with his mono-pod mounted Nikkor EDIF 600mm f5.6 lens. Both Neil Lifer and Walter Iooss are staff photographers for SPORTS Illustrated Magazine!

The game started and the crowed roared! After 9 minutes in the game O.J. and a Patriot player were ejected from the game for fighting. The fans BOOED for at least 2 minutes maybe longer!

But, it gets better! Back then you had now way of knowing what you made on your exposed film until it was developed. As you all can see I did make a classic photo, made by me: Anthony P Gawrys not Neil Lifer or Walter Iooss Jr. from SPORTS Ill. HOWS THAT! AP

We are speaking photography. The photo you are viewing is real and it's film, not auto digital everything. No crimes during that game have been made against O. J. Simpson. Since you do not like O.J. Simpson, it tells everyone you have hate it your heart not LOVE!

No matter what the title of the thread, or where it was posted--- it was a timely, interesting story and a good picture as well. Thanks.

It is controversial and relates to current political situations in the US. Stirring that particular pot is not necessarily helpful. Also, the OP's style of communication has exacerbated that situation as can be told from the reactions. I'm sure that an equivalent discussion of people involved with the IRA or 'the troubles' in Northern Ireland might also elicit some strong reactions.

This is not just a historic photograph, and it feels that the OP is exploiting a news event for his own personal gain, regardless of the merits of the photograph in question.

I consider the timing and the style of his commentary to be poorly considered. It's a bit like a naked Kim Kardashian selfie, pure self promotion. Photographically it's better, but that was not the context in which it was expressed.

If communicated differently it may have garnered very different responses.

Clearly there has been a misunderstanding here.

All I was asking was whether or not you would be kind enough to share the entire story that went along with your photo. The first sentence visible under the newspaper caption which accompanies the photo is clearly in a different typeset. And given the protective cover sheet visible in your post, I assumed that your photo is kept in a scrapbook, and that you added a short tale about the capture of the photo.

To be clear, I have NO experience photographing pro sports, nor do I claim to have a classic renowned photo. Why you chose to lash out at me is baffling. Maybe I worded my question poorly. If so, I apologize.

Not sure I'm still interested in the back story now...

The new world has different rules, I'm from the old world which is the same to me. My photo tells me, you do not understand what your seeing. Never mind how to make the capture if you were next to me! I do understand what's going on, and, I'll see it before you! Know why, I have more experience than you! AP

Ok, so now we have a show of hands. Mine are bigger than yours.

Sorry but that is really bad news if not manners. One cannot judge the experience of another on line but one can guess where this is going... Straight to hell, as if wasn't there already.

Sorry AP but your title and timing is at the best ill inspired. This has nothing to do with your photography, no one is saying or implying you are not talented or anything like that. The reaction is allergic because the guy creates hives on anyone who has at the very least a little inkling as to this guy antecedents.

Once gain, to make sure you understand: This is not about your photography.

Your making simplicity complicated! I did not write the caption under the photo. I was told from the Geographic, writers write, and photographers make pictures. You did not understand what you were looking at and what it has to say! Do you think for one minute they posed for me ? You want written words concerning the photo. It was made with a manuel camera and a manuel focus lens. Oh, do you need a manuel light meter ? Yes you do ! Is film more difficult than digital ? Yes it is, you have to be more knowledgeable ! AP

OK, I gave you more than a fair chance civil, and you pissed it away.
If you truly believe what you say you do, do us all a favor and step away from the keyboard. Stick to your camera and stop writing! You suck at it! Clear enough this time? Thanks for pointing out to all of us you took a great photo. Don’t break your arm patting yourself on the back.
