I saw that you were on when I posted , I was waiting for a reply and I sure got one. I tore my rig down yesterday and for the past week we've had pretty clear skies but, the heat and humidity came back. Frustration going out back every night just to pack up because my rig or controller won't act right. Congrats on the new mount Mr. Deep pockets ! A new mount would just make my day but, I'm not that fortunate to have my Better-half agree to that expense. I can't get my darn Polar scope aligned to save my life , so of course my alignment is off and my DA isn't getting it any better.

I've not used plate solving, but I believe Ed has/does....it'll probably be tough to get him, I think with his moving and terrible weather, he is probably just hibernating now under his blanket.

Ed and Matthew have both talked about Plate Solving. Maybe bwana, too?
I think it's a good thing, but Dang! How in the world do you get it to work???

So I have to do mine the Old Fashioned Way... I earn it.
Fumble-Bumble, Bumble-Fumble, trip, fall, Ouch!

I'm going to give it a try, if I can get some help with it Maybe youtube . I just see them using those expensive eq-6 mounts and eqmod. I can't use that or it just doesn't work with a meade. As for my sorry a-- graph that's after 3 hrs. and 4 alignments . Something is a miss with this mount / control pad but, I've got to figure this out I'm almost there and it would've been framed walked outside to see a sea of clouds where I was shooting clouds had killed it for me. Thanks fellas !

Astrotortilla is an excellent program (free too) for platesolving. Once you get it up and running - you will never do another star alignment. You will be able to remove your finderscope for good and lighten the load. The key to the settings is determining the proper scale to imput. The program needs info about your scope and camera in order to scale the sky to your kit or visa versa. Once that is done you will never look back. I use Astrotortilla when I do not use Sequence Generator Pro. But as of late, all I am using is Sequence Generator Pro to do everything....from remote platesolving, framing and focusing, to setting up an imaging sequence and executing the sequence.

Let me know what your scope's focal length and camera and I will help you determine what info to input. Then make sure you download or have downloaded all of the catalogs for your kit (s) first.

Thank you for getting back with me , I've got 800fl newt. and asi147MM camera and xmas I'll receive an EFW and SGP. WOOHOO! Today I should receive my 7 port usb3 hub with individual on /off switches for each hub 5GB download for each port. I hope it's what I need for hooking everything so I don't have a twisted mess at the end of the night to untwist. I just want to try and get a handle on this 'Plate solve" before Alanna has to pay for SGP. Alanna is a Certified nurses aid that helps me get through the day to day and takes care of everything . She has set up all my firmware and programs so they're easier for me to navigate and operate. I do have SGP installed in demo mode and will I be able to plate with it in demo mode too?

Don't know if this may help you, but this guy wrote up a pretty good tutorial on getting started.
