that you respond to someone. Often your response could be several pages from the original comment that you're replying to. For instance your reply to my (1st comment) I had to go back to Page 4 to find out what I had said. So I decided to copy it below to put your response in context.

It depends on just what is being bought.
Personally if I was going to make a purchase, I would choose to buy a camera new from Hunts Photo, and add their extended warranty, because I know that I could potentially drop the body at some point. Or need a sensor cleaning, which I've used on my current body.
But I wouldn't be adverse to buying used or refurbished lenses, if they fit my needs. I tried a used Canon 100-400 L, lens a year ago, but it was a v.1 and didn't meet my needs. After I returned it, I was gifted a v.2 of that lens.
Boxes and manuals aren't always necessary, UNLESS you're a collector. Manuals can be downloaded from the internet. Yes I've saved all of my original boxes and manuals, so that if I upgrade in the future, I can pass them on with their respective pieces of equipment.
Basically, set your budget, then look for equipment that fits into your budget. Only you will know if your budget fits into the used, refurbished, or new category.
I know what I want to purchase next, but that purchase has been put off for over 14 months due to a change in my job status last year. The good news is that I should finally be able to make that purchase within the next month!
