I am a newbie on this site and am hoping that someone out there has some information to pass along about Tamron's new 18-400mm lens. I am a Canon shooter with a 7D Mark ll and a 6D. I have the Tamron 150-600mm G2 which I have used on an African Safari in Tanzania with good results. If any one has info on this new lens from Tamron I would be grateful.

Read the customer reviews at BH photo. Sounds like it is a real winner, especially at its price point. Based on these reviews, it might be a better match for Canon than Nikon users. Might also tempt a few buyers away from the Sony RX10iii which has a similar focal range

One thing I did not see raised is that the 18-400 has MACRO capability.

I currently use a Tamron 18-270 as my walk around lens, and I've thought about the 18-400, too since it came out. Why did you replace your 18-270 with the 18-400? Was it just the additional 130mm zoom range, or are there other advantages of the 18-400 over the 18-270 that made the upgrade compelling?

I never had a tamron 18-270 I have a Canon kit lens 18-200 and am hoping that the 18-400 will be a good walk around lens. I also have the tamron 150-600 G2 and like it a lot.

Yes, I wanted a little more range for birds, ducks, moose, etc. that I see around the neighborhood . . . Also, it's about 4 years newer, so the technology has improved . . . It received really good reviews . . . And, It will be a good all-in-one travel lens . . . I've used it a couple of weeks now and am pleased with it . . .
