I was sitting in the coffee shop this morning listening while you complained about the weather we are having and how it is always nasty when you come down because we have tropical storms, hurricanes, mosquitos and "no-seeums". For some reason you think that prevents you from photo shoots. Really? I was going home after getting some decent shots of deer, wildhogs and soggy woods. Why did you buy a house here? You griped about your unfriendly neighbors but I clearly remember the old man who lives next door bringing you some of his fresh caught fish soon after you moved in. He & I were fishing off his back porch and he thought he would be neighborly. You cut him off and shut the door in his face. He does, after all, live in that run-down trailer at the end of the road that you and your neighbors would like to get rid of. He has lived there more than 50 years and is close to dying so you will get your wish. He was there before there was even a road . The first snow Birds to move in have been there 10yrs and seem to avoid the woods. You ought to talk to him. He has a lot of great stories about the wildlife that used to be around him & his family and could show you some great places for photo ops. He is a well known author and philanthropist. He'd be great to add to your name-dropping list. You won't know this until his obit is written. Your wife said you needed to go to the Miami Zoo to shoot some wildlife. Did you know there is a lot of marshes, preserves and state parks near you where wildlife and flora abounds? You implied FL Natives are all rednecks and said how much you preferred socializing with "your kind". Boy! Are you missing out! We have great BBQ's and fish fries down here in the "ghetto section" as you so nicely called it. I may be a low class redneck but if someone says "I wish you would get me a picture of a gator" I would NOT go to a zoo! If you are not interested in the people & life in FL and continually whine about "home" and how much better your pictures turn out there, you need to go back. You are only here 5-6 months a year. Why? Status? You certainly aren't happy moving back & forth and are usually on road trips in your motor home. I am a proud Native and have actually made friends of some Snow Birds but some of you need to be extradited back up north. I hope ya'll are first.
Sorry about the rant I feel better. ps: when you go take the Mouse...

Some people just ain't happy people, no matter where they plant themselves. And negative people get negative experiences. I've been to a lot of great places and make the most out of the weather. Afterall, I'm NOT home.

Sorry for your day ckcougar. Hope it gets better.

not a native but agree with sentiment except for taking the mouse. (he is after all Florida's biggest industry and we need more jobs) If I were to hazard a guess they come from the northeast section of the US or snob central. Being a Midwesterner ( a kind, friendly and polite folk) I enjoy tremendously what Florida has to offer, including collard greens, but only if cooked by my pastor. really delicious. I also adopted local sports teams. hate it that for spring training the Tampa Bay Rays draw more red sox and Yankee fans, You should adopt some local teams as well as keep your old loyalties. Am a die hard Detroit everything fan as well as a wolverine fan, but also support the Miami dolphins and heat, Tampa bay lightning and rays, and since the gators for a while were spanking the Ohio state buckeyes I became a gator fan! as the old saying goes, WHEN IN ROME DO AS THE ROMANS DO!

Definitely upstate in the Nawth. Transplants like yourself are welcome to stay. If the Mouse left, so would the tourists & the economy would balance itself as all 'aliens" follow him. My day got better for awhile. Then my roof started leaking from the storm and the back yard flooded onto the porch. I gave up and made a banana split with rum sauce. LOTS of rum sauce. LOL.

I live year around in a Winter Texan Park and I listen to them when they give the reasons they are here. Many of them say they were in Florida but the locals are too unfriendly and rednecks. Personally I don't think being a redneck is all that bad.

BTW DO you know how you can tell if you are a redneck?
Here's a couple of ways: If your family tree has no branches and if you ask a question like, 'If I divorce my wife is she still my sister?'

I feel your pain. I live way back in the forest and folks who come here aren't prepared for the wilderness they find, the dirt roads, the 'odd' people, but I don't mind them too much because they'll be gone before I can say 'boo!' and that suits me just fine. When I meet some that really want to see what's to be seen in these parts, I gladly share the lovely places and scenery with them. I introduce them to some of the more colorful 'locals' and steer them to the best places for hiking and fishing. The others....I'm glad when they leave and hope they don't leave their trash behind.

Folks like that are 'more to be pitied than scorned' as my late husband used to say.
If you expect the best, you’ll get it. If you expect the worst, you’ll get it. What a sad way to live your life, always fault finding, I prefer the Pollyanna approach myself.
As to no photo opportunities, pffft, what a crock, unless something strange has happened and Florida is in permanent darkness, there will always be photo opportunities, they just need to open their eyes and take a good look around.

Moved to C.Ga from Indiana. Couldn't agree more with CK...life is what you make it. As to Yankees using term "redneck", suggest they do some research on origins and meanings. Photo ops are everywhere if you have any imagination at all....apparently they don't. I hate it when some yank comes down here and gives us true transplants a bad name...lol...just sayin. I might have been born up "nawth"...but got here as soon as I could!!

Thanks! I know we have all heard that saying before, but you go about life and forget it. This was just the day I needed that reminder. Thank you.

Abraham Lincoln said "people are just about as happy as they set their minds to be.". Sounds like this couple are probably not happy anywhere they are, sad.

I'm a northern Yankee from New York and have been to many places around the world. If you can't find natural photo opportunities or photo of the locals, you must be blind and or completely negative. Shooting the locals are one of the greatest photo ops in my opinion and if you show you are friendly you will find so much hospitality it will surprise you. At least that is what I have found.

You are all right and up-lifted my opinion of dang "fornurs" again. Don't know why some people have to be so miserable & snotty but to cheer myself up I went next door and talked to my NY transplant neighbors. Truly glad they moved in. Seeing your comments this morning reinforced my happy mood.
