Well it's been over two weeks that Win 10 would not open my photoshop 5.5, I've done lots of research to try and figure out what I could do to solve the problem. I haven't tried anything as of yet but to my surprise, this morning it opened on command and is working perfect!
It also brought up my Western Digital external drive which it kept telling me I would have to reformat in order for it to work and I would loose all my files by doing so! This is the second time that this has happened since I've had Win 10, what's up with that??? Glad to get them back but it is awful scary when it happens. Thanks for all the suggestions, but for now, I'm back in the saddle!

Look on Window 10 website and you will see all sorts of problems that are happening and how to fix them. There are all sorts of reasons, old machines and not so old machines. My Laptop is 3 years old and it crashed. It has been sorted now, but backup is the answer to be safe. There was a thread the other day on this and you will see suggestions on backing up which has helped me. I can't think of what it was called, but will have a look and post it here so that you and others can check it out or at least it will give you ideas.

While your computer is up and running satisfactorily, set a "Restore Point." Name it appropriately like, "Good Start." Next time your computer gets wonky, you can always "Restore" to that point.
A better solution is to "clone" your drive on a regular basis to an external drive. If your system goes wonky then, clone FROM the external backup drive to your C: drive.

Indi, you nailed it. For any version of Windows be sure to create a restore point.

What you're running into are Windows 10 updates. Microsoft just released another update about 2 weeks ago which took me out of business. I worked with 2 techs online then ended up reloading Windows 10 which was the best thing I could do as I cleaned up my system, the Windows 10 install original was not correct and I got better with working the new OS.

So within the menus there is a place to rollback to the previous version. If you find that things are n't working as they where it is best to rollback one version. MS gives you 10 days to do so after an update so be aware of this and check your system daily.

1. Under all settings go to the system icon and check the current system version
2. Under all settings go to update & security select update history to see when dates that updates have taken place and the version of the update.
3. On the history page you will see two options uninstall updates and recovery - uninstall updates allow you to rollback to the previous version which may be why you are having issues. The recovery allows you to rebuild your system with a couple of options.

I hope this helps for future issues. It's worth looking at it now in the event anyone runs into problems.

God luck

This post has been up for quite a few hours now and I haven't seen any replies from any Apple people saying, "get a Mac". Where are they?

Get a Mac. Load Parallels Desktop. Install Win 10 or clone your existing PC onto the Mac. Run Windows and Mac apps side by side, seamlessly.

It really works well. I've worked that way since 2008.

I seem to think that Win 10 was a stopgap fix to complaints about Win8 - seems to be an awful long stop-gap.
could be wrong.

On linux you expect things to go wrong occaisionally, there is loads of help available - apparently 'fixing it yourself' is suposedly 'part of the fun'.

Aint progress great!

Linux is powerful and it's quicker because it's command line. The thing I always hated about Unix then Linux was editing files with VI. I've become spoiled seeing the directory structure with File Explorer in Windows.

If not Windows than I could transition to a Mac but then I'd have to repurchase all my apps
