If you are buying a D850, presumably you have a fair amount of background in photography. So the question is really what type of photography do you do? Which lens/distance do you do for most of your photos? And of course,
how much do you want to spend? There are a large number of lenses out there (both Nikon and third party lenses)
so you would need to narrow down what range you will be doing most of your shooting.

?What do you like to shoot?
Though it's not one of the "trinity" of zoom lenses (I have those), personally I find the 24-120 a great lens on my D810.
No, it's not quite as sharp as a prime or the 24-70, but for what I mostly do, PR and events, it's a great performer.

Without a doubt the 24 - 70 f2.8 is a must have to complement that camera. Otherwise you are wasting your money on the camera. IMHO

I agree with Ricardo00 -- before you purchase a new lens beyond the kit lens(es), you really need to evaluate what your subjects will be, how much light you will need and whether a wide-angle or zoom lens would be best. For my D750, I purchased the Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED zoom which handles most of the general photography I do (landscapes and wildlife). It is my go-to lens (approx. $1000). After I got that lens and found I wanted to shoot more sports and hard lighting situations (and saved up my money), I got the AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm F2.8E FL ED VR and the Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR and have been very happy with those (both about $2300-$2600 each). I did purchase the Tamron 150-600mm lens for long distance zoom, and while I can pull in wildlife a lot better, I'm not sure once you get the megapixels of the 850 that you will need that extra zoom (and weight) -- better glass makes better photos and the 2.8 lenses are definitely better glass.

When you own a Nikon full frame camera, be prepared to buy FX lenses. Many of them aren't cheap whatsoever. Especially the holy trinity of lenses. With you being a beginner in Nikon full frame, I would go with the 28-300mm. It will be a good starter IMO. It's also a favorite among DX camera owners. Good luck.

Here is my holy trinity of Full Frame lenses:

Nikkor 14 - 35
Tamron 24 - 70
Nikkor 28 - 300

I agree with mas24, the 28 - 300 is a perfect place to start.

A body, no lenses and you have no idea what to purchase?

Abstain from buying this, you can only be disappointed. This maybe a great camera (it sounds like it) but it will certainly not teach you photography.

A camera like this will give more headaches than a more main stream one.

Just a 'gentle' warning here.

24-70mm 2.8 VR or non VR.
No kit lens--no, no, no.
Enjoy the 850.

I have a 24-70 VR on a full frame Nikon. It is a handy, albeit heavy, lens for general shooting. And it is sharp. I wouldn't bother buying anything but the sharpest lenses available for that camera.

Beyond that, you need to decide if you want to shoot small birds from a distance or creepy crawly things close up. That will determine the next lens's focal length.

There is no kit lens at this time and I know you do not want one. Canon 5D2, 7D2, 14, 16-35, 24-105(kit?), 100&189 macro, 70-200, and 500. This Nikon is to find out what Nikon is all about.

Okay are you saying you plan to buy everything from a macro to a wide angle to a telephoto, etc just to see "what Nikon is all about"? Personally I would start with the new 70-200 f/2.8E FL lens but that is because I mostly do wildlife. However if you do more scenic photography, the 16-35mm f/4G should be a good way to see what the Nikon D850 is capable of. And if you do bird photography, the 500mm f/4E FL would be a great addition since it seems like money is not a limiting (otherwise the 200-500mm f/5.6 would be a much cheaper option).
