The larger memory cards require special care and feeding. If you download your pics and then delete the card contents you can run into trouble. The best way is to download your pics and then clear the contents by reformatting the card every time.[quote=gstephens3Larrie,
You have just elevated above my baby steps (metering). I tried all focusing methods. The card is a ScanDisk Extreme .[/quote]

What ISO are you using? If you have it set low that might explain the difficulty in low light....

ITS NOT THE CARD ALTHOUGH POSSIBLE ITS YOUR CAMERA SETINGS NOT YOU the camera comes from the factory with auto focus and it will pick the closest target to the camera and that will be sharpest view I Sent you a message with the following site www.phtofrund then go to Canon 7D tIPS Auto -focus not working ? check your settings and ENJOY THIS GREAT CAMERA

I have a 7D andhad a similar situation photographing a sunrise at the Grand Tetons. It seemed that in low light situations there wasn't enough light for the auto focus to lock on to the subject and kept ranging to find it, which took some time, hence, "busy". When I took it out of auto focus and went to manual focus the problem disappeared...instant shots one after another. At least that's what worked for me. Good luck, and good shooting.

Hi!
Sorry to hear your having problems. When you finally get the CF Card issue solved you should look at the following link for setting up your 7D for Bird photography, and in particular "BIRD FLIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY" By Doug Brown. Or you can google "best Setup for 7D" he is up at the top of the list!

Here is his link! Take your time, he is really good and the rest is just taking pictures and learning your camera!

So the best of luck to you.

Hi,
Does anyone know if the latest firmware version for the Canon EOS 7D is 1.2.5? I am having a little difficulty confirming that information. I know there is a learning curve with this camera for someone that has mostly used automatic functions on a camera but I am missing shot after shot because it says "BUSY". I am getting a very few great still shots but moving objects are still pretty blurry for me and anything at dusk is just the pits. I am hoping I have outdated firmware and maybe it is not just me and my learning curve. Any information appreciated. Hopefully I will still have the camera by then. It almost got thrown in the Savannah River a couple of times yesterday....

Not sure if firmware is why your camera is 'busy" frequently, or if it's something as simple as a card with low throughput. What card are you using? I know that for me, if I use cheaper cards, the speed is horrendous and I end up having to wait a lot.

B&H has a Canon class that speaks to this issue

Hi Tom S!

I see you claim the delta region. I noticed that great looking Bald Eagel. Did you shoot that in the delta and where at what time of the year. Can you give me a good time of the day to fine these guys. I have seen some when I'm down there but it takes me a good hour and a half to get there from Folsom.

Thanks I look forward to your reply.

Jim

This sounds like a very interesting problem. I just don't think you have provided enough information for us to help. I can think of a dozen questions that have not been asked here. I'd have to write a list but don't have the time. I like some of what I've read here though. Format the card. Do a reset on the 7D back to default settings. If you are shooting in single shot, the camera will not shoot an image unless the focus is confirmed by the 7D processor. Shoot in AF Servo mode when shooting anything that might move. Enable all the focus point. At least 2 don't come enabled by Canon. Stay away from the 19 point focus system and such. Use the spot, point, or the one with a point in the middle of 4. If none of this works, send it to Canon or I'll give you $500 for it so that you don't throw it in the river. LOL
