Hi,
Does anyone know if the latest firmware version for the Canon EOS 7D is 1.2.5? I am having a little difficulty confirming that information. I know there is a learning curve with this camera for someone that has mostly used automatic functions on a camera but I am missing shot after shot because it says "BUSY". I am getting a very few great still shots but moving objects are still pretty blurry for me and anything at dusk is just the pits. I am hoping I have outdated firmware and maybe it is not just me and my learning curve. Any information appreciated. Hopefully I will still have the camera by then. It almost got thrown in the Savannah River a couple of times yesterday....
the latest is 1.2.5
rumor has it that there is a 2.0 coming.
i don't buy in to rumors.

i have the 7d and i find it hard to get a blurry photo unless i hand hold the camera below 1/30th shutter speed. this camera in low light circumstances autofocusses quicker than the 5d i had.
something must be wrong for sure.
what lens are you using?
before you throw it in the river, i will be glad to pay the shipping to have you send it to me. i would love to have another 7d.
Dang. There goes that excuse. Back to the owner's manual, how-to videos, and practice.

Are you saying that after you take a shot the camera says 'Busy' and that's why you can't take another shot? If so, it might be a bad CF card. Please describe more detail your settings, time of day, ect.
These are embarrassing but here they are......
Bee
Bird is really there
Bird after PP
Same area last year with Sony A55

Yes. That is what I am saying. Could it be a bad CF card if it is doing this sporadically? It is much worse at dusk. This morning I was trying to take pictures of dolphins at sunrise. Needless to say, I needed to be ready to take the shot - I would take one and have to wait several seconds before I could take the next one. I have tried all of the settings - autofocus, P, TV, AV, and Manual. I have tried varying my shutter speed (whoo hoo I now know what that is) and aperature settings. I do not have an external flash and am wondering if part of the problem is that it is too dark? Since I am new at this camera - I feel like I have tried everything and haven't hit upon the right combination for camera + Gina = great shot.

So this card has worked fine for a while, and it's just started doing this recently? If it's not a bad card, I would guess it's a setting on the camera. Can you do a reset to default?
Canon owners will probably know what to do about this.

Okay, first try formatting your card. If that works then there's your problem. If not then try setting your camera back to it's default settings. If you need help doing that let me know. The 7D has two processors and shouldn't be saying "busy" unless you've been shooting at high speed 8-fps while it's emptying the buffer. I've never seen it happen with "one shot" as your drive setting. Let us know if that does the trick. good luck.

Yes it could be a bad CF card. If you haven't downloaded pictures on the card, do so. Then replace the card in the camera and format the card. If that isn't the problem then try a new CF card.
If that doesn't help, here are some things to try:
1) Clear All Camera Settings by pressing the menu button, go to the 3rd wrench symbol, highlight "clear all camera setings", highlight "OK" and press the set button.
2)If that doesn't solve the problem then do a hard reset by taking out the camera's main battery and then the small coin sized clock battery which can be found in the main battery compartment just under the hinge. Wait 30 seconds and replace it. You will have to set the current time and date and any custom setting you may have enabled.
If those things don't work, then suspect the firmware which you can download from the canon website to a CF card for upload into the camera. Keep us posted.
By the way, you can always call Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON
Give us make and model of of your card for starters When you post a pic check off the box for "store original" so we can check the EXIF. Your "Bee" pic seems to suffer from misdirected AF and shallow DOF. Same with the dolphin You are exposing and focusing on the sun wheras the dolphin is way to the right in the shadow. What form of metering do you have selected and what pattern of AF do you have selected?

I have tried #1 already without any luck. Trying #2. If that doesn't work, then I will download the firmware and reload it and see if that works. Thanks for the suggestions. I just wanted to make sure this is not the norm for this camera.

Larrie,
You have just elevated above my baby steps (metering). I tried all focusing methods. The card is a ScanDisk Extreme .
