I'm still following this thread because it's become so comical. Repetitive comments, advice from members who didn't read beyond the first post, and a few that are just plain dumb!

My advice to the OP is to call B&H. Demand they contact Nikon in Japan, by way of Nikon USA, and have them ship a new box, with serial number xxxxxxxx label attached. I would also demand overnight express delivery, since you have already endured too much pain and suffering, anxiety, and frustration.

Didn't read much of the thread, Alan? IT WAS B&H!

Sorry, I thought she gave the name of another company I had never heard of.

Didn't read much of the OP Jobber? "Hi all, I recently ordered an AF-S VR Zoom 70-300 mm f/4.5-5.6G IF ED lens from Photo Video Plus."

Read the thread, pages 1 and 2. It will help clarify the situation.

Yeah, I know. I was just bustin' your butt 'cause you posted when I was trying to make a point about that. In this case it was a one liner that was easy to miss.

Thanks for playing.

agreed.

But I also keep all my boxes and paperwork even though I have never sold off anything.

Dont know why but my wife says I was deprived as a child and wont get rid of anything now.

Huh! My wife says similar things, although I think the word she uses is 'depraved' and that nothing has changed!

Hi all, I recently ordered an AF-S VR Zoom 70-300 mm f/4.5-5.6G IF ED lens from Photo Video Plus. When it arrived,
all the tape on the box was fine as was the packing box. However, when I opened the box, the lens box had a razor blade cut
across the top of the box--very noticeable. This concerned me since this was supposed to be a new lens in a pristine box.
I also wondered if, in the future, I wanted to sell this lens, I would have trouble doing so because of the damage to the
box. I expressed this anxiety to Photo Video Plus several times, but they seemed unconcerned and did not offer to replace
the lens and the box. The lens seems to work fine. I also worried if this might be a used lens. I think who ever packed the
lens must have seen this damage. Photo Video Plus states that they don't know where the damage came from or when it
occurred.

Would a cut across the top of a lens box bother you if you were purchasing a new lens?

Thanks,

Christy Kabler
Hi all, I recently ordered an AF-S VR Zoom 70-300 ... (show quote)

It wouldn't bother me the slightest bit as long as the contents were not cut or damaged. The cut on the top of the box doesn't mean the box was ever opened or that it is a used lens. B&H is a very reputable company and I do most of my buying through them. I have never had any problems at all with any purchases from B&H.

Only if I were an OCD-style collector who saved every box and never used the contents, hoping for a great NIB sale on eBay 20 years from now.
