Hey jdm--
I'm about to send in my 750...please update us with what you learn after speaking w/Nikon. I'm noting my settings before wrapping, but there's no guarantee I'll record everything. Thanks!

Will do, Acufine. I'm certain that something is gravely amiss with my 750. I know the camera like the back of my hand and have gone through every menu today; this doesn't resemble a "settings" issue. I'll post on Monday once I speak to Nikon so you and all our other 750 shooters can learn from my situation.

Thanks, Mike. I'm definitely in AF-S and am seeing multiple focus points flashing around erratically when I depress the shutter. I also own the 7100 (which is operating normally) and I'm comparing the settings on both bodies. I am going to go through every setting today, and will call Nikon on Monday if I don't figure this out.

Select a single, center focus point, and see if that works.

This is excellent, for a good price.

Nikon set the camera back to factory defaults. I use the save setting menu and an SD card to save my settings so if something needs to be reset it is easy to do

My D750 was in the most recent batch of cameras affected by the shutter service advisory. I sent it back to Nikon in Melville and waited for 2.5 weeks for its return. It arrived yesterday with a repair summary that said they replaced the shutter, updated firmware, and adjusted the auto focus.

Now, when I depress the shutter halfway to achieve focus, instead of seeing one or several red focus points of my choosing, I see a random scattering of three to five, smaller rectangles than before that flash and change positions and change from black to red and back to black again. The multi-selector wheel no longer controls the selection of focus points. (It is not in locked position.)

Does this sound like my camera needs to go back to Nikon for another repair? I hope I'm just missing something. Thanks in advance for your replies.

As with any advanced electronic gear operation, just like on humans, things sometimes do not go according to plan. I am sorry for your problems but you are not alone. I had to send my 200-500 Nikon lens in five times to finally get it right.
It is important to remember that Nikon WANTS you happy and they want to fix your camera right the first time. So, you need to contact Nikon, NOT US, and explain your problem to NIKON, NOT US. And they will work with you to fix your camera. Yes, you have been inconvenienced, so was I, FIVE TIMES, but Nikon did fix my lens in the end and I am now enjoying it once again. So, hang in their, thanks for voicing your frustrations, now call Nikon and move on. They will, upon request, send you a pre-paid shipping label.

I have just gotten back my D750 for the same recall. I have not done much more than power it up and put on a lens. My settings appear lost. And no, I did not save them. A new shutter was installed. etc. From everything I have read on this thread it seems settings might have been reset. But I will check out my camera by first doing a complete reset, just in case that supposition is wrong? Why fight some weird setting that I would never guess was touched? Maybe things were set to aid the technician in adjusting the autofocus, and other systems, which Nikon said they did. By doing a complete reset at least I will know ground zero, then proceed from there. But thanks for posting, nice to know one is not alone. And thanks mborn, I will use a small memory card to save my settings in the near future, great idea!

Thanks, Jerry. I wish I could try that. The focus selector function on the multi-selector wheel no longer works, with no influence on the positioning of the focus point. (It's not in lock position, and I'm in AF-S.) And now the focus function doesn't work at all. I'm afraid it's going back tomorrow. I hope Nikon services it on their dime as it was working perfectly well when I sent it in.

Note to others: I never noticed any problem with the shutter to begin with; I sent it in as my serial number was listed on Nikon's site as one of those with the issue. I wish now that I had just waited until it started to evidence a problem.

Jerry, thanks also for the backcountry resource. I'll take a look. I have Mike Hagan's book and have done a class or two with him on Creative Live. I highly recommend both!

Too bad about your camera, but Nikon will make it right. Just be specific about the problem(s).

I have several John Greengro videos from CreativeLive - excellent!

I sent mine in last week.

Got mine back the other day, so far everything seems the same as when I sent it in... to my surprise (as far as setting are concerned)...other than having to reset the time and date, still have to check my lenses using Focal.

I also sent my D750 for the latest recall and got it back few days ago. No autofocus issues.

Only few settings were changed, but not a complete reset. File number was reset, but shutter count has few more than what I had before. Some of the function keys were mapped to something else, but my Image Comment and Copyright Information data were intact.

Mine D750 was noted as Non-US and was updated with latest firmware 1.12. The Nikon service center I sent mine to was in Los Angeles, CA.

The only time I see focus points move around inexplicably is when auto focus is in 3D mode, which is selected when you push in the auto focus mode selector button and rotate the wheel on the front of the camera. When the camera is in that mode the focus points move around in a way that seems random but they don't change from black to red. My 750 hasn't been subject to the recall so I don't know if there was something in the firmware upgrade that changed things but I think that regardless of any changes, improvements, you should be able to select your way out of it. If you can't change it by holding in the auto focus mode selector and rotating the front dial button then something is wrong.

Sathca, you nailed it. I checked and it was set to 3D!!!!! Here I thought I "know this camera like the back of my hand," but I've never used 3D so I didn't know what I didn't know! Thank you so much! You and one other awesome hog have just made my day! That's why this forum is so awesome.
