it seems that if you do not have a "media pass" you can not bring in a dslr camera into a lot of venue,s. I have been looking on the web to apply for one , but, must not looking in the right place, and what about downloading a template and making one? any information would be appreciated !!

Are you a member of the media?
Contact the venue you want to attend.

No a "Press Pass" has to be from a recognizable publication and/or web site. Freelancing is just that.

I added to my post above.
Contact the venue you want to attend about that.
Or
I've shot a few concerts for a local magazine as a freelancer and had them get me into the venue. Get someone to vouch for you.
Mine was legitimate, they ran the photos.

Sometimes a "sponsoring" organization can help. I haven't freelanced in years--but that worked for me.

Press passes come from the venue management or with some events or concerts, the event or artist management. The bigger the venue or event, the less likely you can get one as a freelancer. If you have had photos published before as a freelancer, that might help with your request. Photographers who work for publications usually have some credentials from the publication, but they have to use those to get passes to specific events. Ones you make yourself probably won't fool anyone.

If you have one particular venue in mind, think about whether you've had any contact with anyone at that venue who might vouch for you. Or you may know somebody who knows somebody who can. Depending on what you're looking to shoot, this might help get you and your camera get in the door.

And just maybe, if one door gets opened for you, you can leverage it to crack open some others. Good luck.

http://www.crystalgraphics.com/powerpictures/images.photos.asp?ss=press+pass go here take a look at press passes, then make one with
Photoshop, and get a nice holder for it. I think I'll make one tonight. on the back side, put some info such as Freelance press LLC and your name and address etc.

Collegiate sports have their own press passes they hand out to media and department chairs. I was at a concert that had several bands. I was sent to the basement to see their PR people. They issued me one.

The problem you are going to have with downloading a template and making your own is they are not going to be the same as the passes security is looking for.

You might go to your local newspaper and ask them to get you a media credential in exchange for a couple of photos to print in their paper. That usually works well for me.
