I'd suggest Murrells Inlet, you have two main choices, Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park. Brookgreen is mentioned above so I won't repeat, but Huntington has a long causeway with gators and fowl, eagles. I live in the area, send me a PM and I'll try to join up with you.

Thank you very much for the info. Im not sure what my wife has planned for us but when I get situated and see what I have for free time, I'll shoot you a PM and see if we can meet up. Gary

I forgot---across the road from Brookgreen Gardens is the entrance to Huntington Beach State Park. The park is full of egrets, herons, and alligators. But it depends on the state of the tide in the marsh. Sometimes 50 egrets, sometimes none at all. Or you can take very easy stroll to the beach and see lots of shorebirds. Remember, the easiest way to find an "alligator" is to listen for "allegations". Just a feeble attempt at a little humor. Have fun in the area.

Thank you again. Gary

I spend time at Brookgreen every year and love all of it. If you are into birds, they have an aviary that is part of the zoo. The birds seem to know to pose for you. Also, there is a state park across the highway from Brookgreen with a boardwalk into the wetland. Enjoy.

Thank you. That sounds right where I want to be. Gary

Having been there and seen many of it's 100+ golf courses, I'd say you're smart not taking your clubs.
Hurry... an hour or two isn't much time.

I had shoulder surgery a couple years ago. It put an end to a rather unimpressive golf career. I think if I tell my wife Im going to explore for an hour or two, she won't be surprised if I'm late returning. After reading a few of these responses, Im really getting amped up to see a couple of these spots. Gary

I second Murrells Inlet; been there twice and there are some great photo ops there. A medium telephoto or zoom lens is a must.

If you end up in Murrells Inlet at Huntington Beach or Brookgreen Garden, Brookgreen Gardens has a 48FT pontoon Boat ride that last about 45 min. You also have Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk, waterfront dining and a 1/2 mile boardwalk that can give you some place to eat and get some sunset picks in. If you want to drive about an hour south you have the Center For Birds of Prey, located in Awendaw SC, 4719 Highway 17N. They have a rehab center where you can view and photograph birds of prey during a flight demo. I will send you some photos that I took...Jim M

Forgot to mention also that there are a half dozen restaurants at Murrells Inlet that have the finest seafood that I've ever eaten in South Carolina.

Had some terrific shrimp last night. It was served not w/ cocktail sauce but another type of sauce. I've never seen it before. Quite spicy and very good! Looking forward to some more local tastes. Thanks again. Gary
