I'm going for a graduation and some beach time. I'm hoping to be able to escape for an hour or two ( I'm going with a large group, I don't want to be rude) to get some wildlife shots. Anyone know of any parks, reserves, etc... Thank you very much in advance for your help. Gary

I can't give you an address, but there's a preserve run by a ''Doc Antle" and T. I. G.E.R.S. (The Institute for Greatly Endangered and Rare Species) in Myrtle Beach. Lions, tigers, and other exotics. Known him for more than twenty years, as he used to bring some of his animals to the annual fall Renaissance Faire in Carver.

He rescues animals world-wide, and is a well known and respected figure. His animals have starred in numerous movies, the MGM lion is his, and he's made many appearances on television.

I'm sure you can google the location. I know they give tours of his preserve, and I believe they allow some limited interaction with the animals.

Thank you very much. I will google it and hopefully get by there. Gary

If you have time you can go down to Murrells Inlet to Brookgreen Gardens. Some wildlife and a small zoo.

Lately Myrtle Beach is nothing but wildlife...
But kvanhook's suggestion is a great choice

I forgot---across the road from Brookgreen Gardens is the entrance to Huntington Beach State Park. The park is full of egrets, herons, and alligators. But it depends on the state of the tide in the marsh. Sometimes 50 egrets, sometimes none at all. Or you can take very easy stroll to the beach and see lots of shorebirds. Remember, the easiest way to find an "alligator" is to listen for "allegations". Just a feeble attempt at a little humor. Have fun in the area.

I spend time at Brookgreen every year and love all of it. If you are into birds, they have an aviary that is part of the zoo. The birds seem to know to pose for you. Also, there is a state park across the highway from Brookgreen with a boardwalk into the wetland. Enjoy.

I'd suggest Murrells Inlet, you have two main choices, Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park. Brookgreen is mentioned above so I won't repeat, but Huntington has a long causeway with gators and fowl, eagles. I live in the area, send me a PM and I'll try to join up with you.

Having been there and seen many of it's 100+ golf courses, I'd say you're smart not taking your clubs.
Hurry... an hour or two isn't much time.
